So how does this posting stuff work anyway?

Forgive my ignorance. You have all been very forgiving of ignorance in the past, so here’s another opportunity to exercise your graciousness.

I don’t have a webpage. Is that the only way to post music here? I think I have something I can setup as far as a personal webpage with my ISP, but I have no clue how it works. ???

Hi sweet_beats:
I think you’ve got the essence of it… You have the storage space where you post an mp3 or wma comperssion file of your song… Then, you copy and paste the url on your message that you post here and anyone who is interested, will be able to open your link… and listen to or download your creation…

Mabey someone will reply with a more Correct answer to your question…

Bill…

Right, but I have to have the URL first, which would be the creation of a personal webpage through my ISP, which is the part I’m struggling with…thank you for the clarification though. If I’m understanding you correctly, I have to have a URL with which to link in order to post music to this forum, yes?

Thank you.

Hey, dude, I’ll see if I still have the ftp article I wrote for audiominds…failing that, go to www.collaborationcentral.com and read their FTP Tutorial. It IS confusing to figure out! :p But once you “get it”, it isn’t so bad.

Peace,
-Ed

You don't have to use your ISP-given web space, either. Several people here have used services like SoundClick to post their music (quick examples so you can see the format: MidnightToker's and jeremysdemo's sites). I haven't used them myself, but apparently they give you a free "site" you can upload your songs to (there are "enhancements" you can pay for), and I believe they even automatically convert your MP3s to streaming format, which many listeners on dialup seem to prefer. I'm not sure what other sites do the same thing, but that seems to be a fairly popular one.

Failing that, or, if you want to post something while youre learning about personal web space and FTP…Email me the .mp3 or .wma, and ill put it on my webspace for you.
Then it will be downloadable by other people.
Let me know if you want to do that, i have space im not currently using.

If you use Soudclick or similar, keep in mind that a lot of us can’t be bothered to register anywhere just be able to listen to a song…

Hi Again:
I reposted the link you are refering to so it’ll take you there directly…

http://www.collaborationcentral.com

I hope you don’t mind, edmon I’m sorry for doing that to you and your post… Well, you know…

I am no master at building a web-page. So I post song files this way… Here is a link to the idea of how I post links…

http://www.chebucto.ns.ca/~ax056/

I have 10 meg. of space there… so building a web page is just Bells-and-Whatever…

To guys trading audio tracks… Fancy-Dancy is Fancy-Dancy… Well, that’s what I think…

Bill,
No worries here! I didn't learn how to do it cause I wanted to, but because I HAD to... :p

FWIW, I've got some room on my site too, sweet_beats (Whoa! That sounded vaguely pornographic...or cheezy)
:D
Er, um, ....nevermind.

Peace,

Yep, forgot about that--good point. For SoundClick, streaming (hi or lo quality) doesn't require registration, but MP3 download does.

So how do ya get web space to store…I’m very ignorant about the web and #1 computer son has moved outta state…is this something ya have to buy?..maybe I need to change my name to Duh Huh

Just go to Yahoo and click on Geocities. Sure you have to pay but for $80 or so a year you can get quite a bit of space. My site cost me around a $100 or so if I remember correctly and I have 125Mb of space. The design tools come with the deal and it’s extremely easy.Check out my page, and believe me I’m a relative dummy :)
