lag issue
After finding a very helpful post here on a registry edit fix to allow my dell lap top b130 to monitor input,I find that there is a serious sync issue when tracking with the b130.the lag indicator value increases through out the recording, suggesting a incompatible sound card.Does anyone have a recmondation for the least expensive sound card for this machine and how much they are.I really dont need much just something to run ntracks w/out lags.i really only need something with 1/8" inputs…I think.thanks in advance…Caleb
You might try the ASIO4ALL driver to see if that helps. I haven’t heard any reports of users running it with Vista but it works great with XP on my laptop when I need to use the onboard sound.
I also use a Tascam US-122L with my lappys. It’s USB2.0, ASIO/WDM drivers, up to 24/96 recording/playback, two mic pre’s with phantom power, good headphone amp, decent latency, etc… It’s about 150 bucks. Nice bit of hardware…

In the preferences make sure “Use system timer for …” is NOT checked, for anything. If it is checked, and it is checked by default, then the sound card and n-Tracks will be running from two different clocks. If the two clocks aren’t PERFECT then they will slowly drift apart over time. When those options aren’t checked then n-Tracks will be run from the sound cards clocks, so the sound card and n-Tracks should stay perfectly in sync.
Some machines will have more pops and clicks one way or the other. Don’t worry about that unless it happens. Playing with buffer settings can’t usually help that.
All that said, some machines may have other sync issues. There is an option to “keep devices open”. Which way this should be set is more on a machine basis. Use whichever way works best.
The ASIO did it!thank you!
Geeze - Jeremy would be proud.

Yerp. I think Jerm is on their payroll...
Seriously, sometimes ASIO4ALL is just the ticket for onboard audio for laptops AND desktops. I hate going anywhere without my trusty Tascam though. I've come to really like that little box.
I'm seriously contemplating getting an M-Audio Axiom controller and using my laptop through the Tascam for keys, loops and synth sounds at church. I just ain't that good a keyboard guy... still, pads and stuff are usually just triads or root/fifth kinds of things. With a bit of practice maybe I could pull it off?

i use my US122 a lot too - I’ve been thinkin about the same thing for church with my laptop.
My digitech rp80 effects box just isn’t accessible enough for changing live feels…even with about 20 effects I’ve programmed myself. but then reaching for a mouse or manipulating a pad ain’t that pleasurable a thought either.
Another clear case of invisibilty!
