St John River.. New Brunswick.. Canada

Worst Flooding sense '73

Hi Gents:

The Steel Guitar Player that I worked with for many years sent me some mail today that I thought I might share you…
The links are in the mail he sent over to me… There’s some great photos here that might interest you…

This isn’t new to the people who live in these parts…
In fact it happens on a yearly occurrence… but this year the flooding has been at record levels…

As well, this area has some of the most fertile farming land in these parts… NO Wonder…

This is what Lew Jenkins had to say, today… What fascinating links these are…

A friend sent me a few links with photos of the area. You might Google this or run down some links if you want to see more. There's certainly lots here to give you an idea of what this flood year was like, and I understand there's still lots of snow in the Northern Maine and NB woods, so another dumping of rain could raise the river level again.

One of the problems is, you can only drain so much water a day through the Saint John River, Reversing Falls, at it’s mouth in St. John, New Brunswick…

Word is it may take 3-4 weeks before the water levels get back below flood stage.

The river hit it's max level yesterday or today May 1 or 2 /08, so the April 25 stuff may not have been at it's highest.

There are some nice shots, mostly downriver from Fredericton along the old Trans-Canada Highway including the Burton Bridge and the new 4 lane bridge in Jemseg.

I presume the lakes with ice still on them may be Grand Lake area which might not flush it's ice cover downstream as the river would.

Bill…

Yeah - I saw it. Apparently it was higher than the 100 year flood. I canoed down the St. John River twice (in my youth) - what a beautiful river. My cousin lives in Presque Isle - I hope she’s dry!

Hi Mr Soul:
That river is one of the nicer rivers in these parts. When flying “WEST” or to upper Canada as we say… and the ceiling permits the pilot flies over a length of the river and drops the wings so everyone on-board gets the opportunity to have a peek at the River… Well, they used to do that…
