Sweetwater.com

Let’s see…

Just made the personal decision to move my on line buying to sweetwater.com from musiciansfriend. I must say they handled my first purchase with them as best as could be expected. The item was shown as in stock, I never heard a word from them - finally called and they said - uh oh - we don’t have any… this was after it should have already arrived. Then their service kicked in. The personal sales rep concept they use is something I really like. I suspect it’s in place for more than a few good reasons. Either way I appreciate it.

I’m saying all of this to get to this: After my bit of email whining about taking a week off to play with my new toy and not getting it - I realized that musiciansfriend never even answered my request for a contest prize. I’m going to email my sweetwater rep today and ask him to take a request up the food chain and see if they come through.

I will be sending a link to the n-Track contest page and the forum too. Let’s see if they really care. I know a lot of you use them so let’s give 'em a little test.

Sweetwater has always been good to me. Between my dad and I, we’ve spent a few bucks with them over the years. The guy I dealt with for a long time eventually moved up in the organization and his replacement is just as cool. Guy #1 would CALL me every now and then, just to see how things were going and ask if he could help us with anything. After his move, Guy #2 called and introduced himself and chatted for several minutes about music, gear, life in general etc… Cool guys, no “pushy sales stuff” just polite inquiries. I had a voice mail message from him a week or so ago. Nice people…

One of my near-fields got zapped during a “brown-out”. I called Sweetwater and they said “No. We don’t repair those in-house… let me get back to you.” In less than fifteen minutes, he calls back and gives me a shipping address and an RMA number. I shipped the monitor out via UPS and two days later a guy calls… "Mr. Diogenes? I’m tech dude from Event Electronics. Your TR-8N is on it’s way back to you. No charge. The UPS tracking number is ABC12345678. Let us know if you have any problems! THANK YOU FOR USING EVENT ELECTRONICS!"

Now friends, THAT is customer SERVICE. :agree:

Sweetwater and Event both ROCK in my humble opinion.

Same here! I deal with a guy called Ryan. Helpful but not pushy. Great service!

Well let’s talk 'em up then. Maybe they’ll donate a prize.

If they donate, I’ll use em instead of MF, GC. :agree:

Sweetwater folks are great. But…those nice, cool guy chat calls are still a form of sales, y’all know.

But I buy my big toys from them. :agree:

Hey doc…I could stay on that page all day, some nice toys there. :agree:

Just heard back from the sweetwater rep.

I’d be happy to forward your request for a prize donation to our marketing dept but I’m sure they’ll have more questions about it. Can I have them contact you directly if they’re interested and have more questions for you? What’s the best phone number? Thanks again!

I should get my line 6 kb37 tomorrow. Might have to just take another week off to play. :agree:

I’m pretty sure

Bill Oxner put me onto Sweetwater just after I bought my Zoom H2 (through Amazon). Since then I’ve used them to buy some specialty mic clips (for church), my trigger-finger and something else that escapes my memory at the moment (I don’t have ‘Alzheimers’ but I do have ‘Someteimers’ - sometimes I remember; sometimes I forget.)

Their service and follow-up has always been top-notch even with dealing with the cross-border issue; on at least one occasion Chris (the rep I deal with) discounted the price since he couldn’t provide the free shipping that would have applied had I been in the States - I didn’t expect it and didn’t ask for it, he offered it.

‘Salesmanship’ isn’t a dirty word - it’s the idea of treating the customer the way you would like to be treated and Sweetwater’s reps typify good salesmanship.

Hey Bill, are you happy with that Zoom H2? That’s the very thing I talked to my Sweetwater rep about earlier this week. May get one myself soon. He could have steered me toward one of the more expensive toys, but since none of them are really made for professional quality recording, he said I’d be better off just getting the less expensive Zoom. Ninety percent of the time I’d just be using it for songwriter sessions or whatever, but I’d hoped to be able to run a couple of good quality mics into it through my M-Audio DMP3 and get some really good XY or mid/side recordings.

I’ve just started dealing with Sweetwater the past year or so, but I’m very pleased with the service so far. No telling how much of my money Musicians Friend has gotten over the years, and except for during their move into a new warehouse, I’ve had no complaints. But it is good to have someone knowledgable to talk to before I decide on a purchase.

Hey Kevin,
I bought the H2 from Sweetwater. Very impressive piece of kit for the money,
Ian

Kevin,

This was recorded by sitting the H2 above the bar in a Karaoke club in Dubai. The recorder ran for over 3 hours. Nothing added after.

Hey Kevin,

I gotta second Bruffie’s comments, Bill Oxner will tell you positive things about the H2 as well.

I use mine a lot - as a stand-alone with its internal mics, capturing sound off my Behringer mixer or even as a USB interface (though that’s become a problem with n-Track - it doesn’t play nice with Zoom’s Asio Driver).

For the money you really can’t go wrong.

They have a pretty active forum as well - H2 Forum.

Not as nice a place as here, but some very knowledgeable people.

Thanks, you guys. I’m downloading the karaoke thing now. Maybe the Zoom Asio driver issues will be addressed in v6.

Remember,, the recording was 'off the cuff' in a karaoke bar and the sound set up is not the best. I'm gonna take it to try and record a local band next week and see how it operates with a lot of volume coming at it :)
