What is all this Technical Rider stuff?
Drum kit? Keyboards? Amps? FOH gear?
Why doesn’t it say guitars and musicians too? That way we could sit in the audience and enjoy the show. ![]()
We take all our gear with us in the vans and always have done. We ask for (but rarely get) controllable and suitable lighting, but that’s it.
All we really need from the house is adequate power outlets and a continuing supply of beer, before, during, and after the gig. ![]()

It’s for concert-type shows where gear is provided by the purchaser. You always have to specify your technical rider.
Heh, you don’t even want to know what happens if you don’t specifiy things… I played a show where the lady lost the rider or who knows… no PA, no backline… and her response was… “I don’t know… do whatever it is bands do…” You’re liable to show up to Toy R Us brand drums and a Casio keyboard.
Well, I suppose so, but we’ve never played Woodstock or The Met. ![]()
But we have played colleges, although it’s mostly smaller venues.
But I know the soundman wants his own board and own gear, and the keyboard guy wouldn’t play anybody else’s synths any more than I’d play someone else’s axe.
But perhaps one day when we’re rich and famous, I’ll be able to demand a personal toilet flushed by Perrier water. ![]()
