This is what I did this weekend

Mixed Rock ‘n’ Roll

Play Loud.

Play Rockin, MMHH, On a Roll & SM.

They were recorded live last Thurs night (11/3). I recorded 6 tracks at 44.1/24 through my Layla3G and my custom-made DAW using nTrack 3.3 software.

Amps: 1962 Brown Vibrolux, 199x Budda, and a SWR bass amp (recorded direct)

Guitars: Gibson LP Deluxe re-issue (modded to use Neil’s pickups), G&L Tele, and Fender P-bass. The TAMA drums were recorded with 2 mic’s.

Vocal mic: Seenheiser Sting edition & EV.

I used a 1202 Mackie mixer and took lines direct into the Layla3G.

I mixed the songs down using PSP Audioware’s Vintage Warmer and other compressors & their EasyVerb. I also used their MasterQ on my voice, and their MasterComp during the mixdown process.

I also used a “secret” effect on the drums. Anyone care to guess what it is?

"Secret Effect"

Ya you taped a picture of GW on the Bass Drum Head so the drummer would kick harder! :p

No, really, I don’t know!

Hey man, I love Neil Young. Listening to you play Southern Man takes me back to the first real band I was in. He was very popular here in the desert.

I listened to all of 'em and loved it.

Thanks for posting 'em.

MY son playing the drums to Misty Mountain Hop. His band (Chris Craven and Conner Miles) is recording it by playing all the parts themselves. The band is just the two of them at the moment. They’ll be layering all the parts. I don’t think they’ve given much thought to vocals…one step at a time when you are 10 and 12 years old and in your first band.

Am I missing a link or something?

Where is Misty Mountain Hop?

KingFish

Well, Misty Mountain Hop is on a Led Zeppelin CD. :)

Eventually when my son’s band gets their version finished I’ll post it. All that is done so far is a click track and the drums.

Ya, I know the song well! One of my top 3 favorite bands.

Just couldn’t figure out what it had to do with the Mr. Soul post and thought I’d finally gone insane till I read the title of the post!

…or maybe I AM insane or living in an alternate reality!

KingFish

You might have to worry if they start doing the Lemon Song!

:)

KingFish

Gotta love that PSP stuff. Turn up the guitar solos! :)

hmm - drumagog on th kick?

I can’t either??? Usually I can figure out the connection with phoo but he’s lost me this time. [edit]Phoo’s thinking this thread is like Tom’s threads where he asked everyone what they’re doing? That’s not this thread but it’s OK.

Can you here the effect? More hints - It’s on the track with the overhead mic, not on the kick. The plug-in is made in Germany & it’s free.

I raised the solo’s 3Db in the mix which I thought was enough. You want them higher?

Tom - VW really helped the guitars & bass. I’m also running it on the drums.

Whoops…it was late. :D

Sorry…I saw “what I did this weekend”, clicked and typed.

Back to Mike’s thread.

So, I’m not crazy??? Crap, I was hoping I was on the edge of Alzheimer’s and that today I wouldn’t know a thing.

Last week the song of topic on the PGmusic site was/is “COPA CABANA”!!!

Much rather talk 'bout Misty Mountain anyday.

Ah, a work of genius. Well, some kind of genius…
Copacabana Lyrics:
Her name was lola, she was a showgirl
With yellow feathers in her hair and a dress cut down to there
She would merengue and do the cha-cha
And while she tried to be a star
Tony always tended bar
Across the crowded floor, they worked from 8 til 4
They were young and they had each other
Who could ask for more?

Chorus:

At the copa (co!) copacabana (copacabana)
The hottest spot north of havana (here)
At the copa (co!) copacabana
Music and passion were always in fashion
At the copa… they fell in love

His name was rico
He wore a diamond
He was escorted to his chair, he saw lola dancing there
And when she finished,he called her over
But rico went a bit to far
Tony sailed across the bar
And then the punches flew and chairs were smashed in two
There was blood and a single gun shot
But just who shot who?

Repeat chorus

At the copa… she lost her love

Her name is lola, she was a showgirl,
But that was 30 years ago, when they used to have a show
Now it’s a disco, but not for lola,
Still in dress she used to wear,
Faded feathers in her hair
She sits there so refined, and drinks herself half-blind
She lost her youth and she lost her tony
Now she’s lost her mind

Repeat chorus

At the copa… don’t fall in love
Don’t fall in love

Will you guys get another thread already :p

Not a Manilow fan eh? I can understand that! :stuck_out_tongue:

TG – two sisters and Manilow to blame for psychological damage… :(

BTW… I would like to listen, but I don’t wanna do the Soundclick sign-up thang. Got 'em posted elsewhere?

What desert are you in?

TG - I don’t have the .mp3’s anywhere’s else but if you have DSL, I can email them to you from home. Message me with your email.

Hey, you tryin’ to burn out my eyes with those lyrics?

I saw him once. Playing piano for Midler in her heyday. He did the intermission as a solo act. They called him Very Vanilla.

Live in Phoenix (or thereabouts)

Didn’t have to sing up at soundclick to hear the songs. Just clicked HI and it came up.

Let me modernize the Copa:

Her name was lola, she hated cola,
You could find her in the back doin’ lines or smokin crack,
She liked to pole dance and do a lap dance,
And while she tried to be a star,
She would do you in your car,
She wore a thong and silver shoes they knew she worked from 10 til 2,
If you touched her on the floor,
The bouncer’d throw you through the door.

Chorus:

At the copa (co!) copacabana (copacabana)
The hottest strip club north of havana (here)
At the copa (co!) copacabana
Sex and drugs were always in fashion
At the copa…they peddled love

His name was Murry,
He was an accountant,
He was escorted to his chair, he saw lola dancing there,
And when she finished, he called her over,
But Murry went a bit too far,
The bouncer sailed across the bar,
Murry refused to pay her price,
There was blood from a switchblade knife,
Did Murry pop a nut?

Repeat chorus

At the copa… she sold love

Her name is lola, she still hates cola,
But that was 30 years ago, when she used to be the show,
Now it’s a disco, but not for lola,
Now she’s wearing Mary Kaye,
Her makeup’s cakedup on her face,
She sits there so refined, and drinks herself half-blind,
She lost her soul and self esteem,
Now she’s lost in a republican dream.

Repeat chorus

At the copa… don’t pay for love,
Don’t pay for love .

Got 'em. Thanks.

It may be these lousy speakers at work but there seems to be a lot sssizzzlllle going on with your vocal mic. The mids are a little bit missing and some sibilance is just jumping out at me?

Pretty good job though!
