Need phantom power for dynamic mic?

I have been evaluating n-Track today on a system that is not mine with just a little computer mic. Decided to buy it…found an old Realistic Highball mic lying around and plugged it directly into the sound card jack to add experimental vocal tracks to exising wave files. Sounds surprisingly good, but I can’t get it anywhere near loud enough. What do I need to do? (At home I’ll be using a Shure 58–I think this old mic is basically the same thing in it’s humble way.)

Thanks for any advice to get me started.

You probably need a pre amp. If you are plugging directly into a line level input, you’ll never have enough volume.

As for phantom power, you only need phantom power when using a condensor mic.
