transfering tracks
can anyone tell me how to trasfer tracks I recorded in N-track on my old computer to n-track on a new computer? Is there some kind of special cord to link the two together. Thanks for any info.
Need as much info as you can give us Bryan - what kind are they would help for starters… does the new one have usb - does the old one - makes models - Did you not want to simply back up the old computer files onto CD and transfer them that way?
If the new pooter has Vista - type Windows Easy Tranfer into start search then follow it through and check it out.
Click the vista logo
Then type in search window…
Let us know… we’ll be glad to help ya out.
A USB drive is a great resourse. I back up to it all the time.
different ways:
If you are not afraid of opening yourr computers: Take the old drive out of the old computer; set the drive to slave and install it into the new computer temporatily. Boot the new computer, it should find the old drive and you can copy the files onto the drive.
If they both have a net card, get a short piece of CAT 5 crossover network cable and create a Local Area Network (LAN) connection to transfer the files.
Save the files to a Cd
I highly recommend an external USB/Firewire/eSata drive. They’re getting cheaper all the time and are the Swiss Army knives of shuttling data around. Just for organization, you might want to make a “Packed Song File” in n-Track and copy that to the external drive. If you do that, choose no compression to keep the full fidelity of the tracks.

PS A decent USB2.0 external drive can be handy for tracking too. I once did an experiment with the setup at my old church. I tracked 20 channels of 24/44.1 audio to a USB2.0 drive for about 25 minutes. It worked great and sure made it easy to carry the stuff home for mixing.
I think all of the above will work. When I bought my new PC I was a little surprised that it only had sata drive slots. Since I have dozens of old ITE hard drives, I bought one of these. It works perfectly, almost as easy as plugging in a usb.

I got one of these.
Here’s another way, perhaps:
Well he is in Arkansas…
Sorry couldn’t resist… I love Arkansas…
Since I have Vista, I would be very afraid to do anything of that nature.
Seems Vista has a mind of it’s own, doesn’t like some things and really hates other things!
Vista sucks!
Sorry bout the rant.
