Ver 6 and win98se

The 32 gig limit is an issue with Win98SE, WinMill (UGH!!!), Win2K and WinXp RTM (the very first release). WinXp SP2 found some kind of workaround, or fix. I ran into it a few times with WinXp RTM before figuring out what the issue was…with some really bad results once. After that I simply limited the partition sizes, or used NTFS. Maybe there’s some kind of workaround for Win98 but I’m not aware of one.

I didn’t like using NTFS because the drives were invisible after booting with a Win98 boot disk. I couldn’t ghost the machines the way I used to.

Hi Gents:
Thanks for posting this information up here… So far, the build is moving right along… I’m over at the Microsoft Update site … I’m working on all the '98SE updates… It’s a slow process with this dial-up and modem… But it’s comming along… I’m gonna take a break… I’m somewhere along the SP 1 downloads… There are some 44 SP2 files to grab… I hope that this will fix the v5 and v6 installs… That’s if I don’t mess them up … At the end of the day, these are the files that got corrupt in the old '98SE build… I don’t know why but that is why I the v5 b2313 build didn’t launch… I think… Anyway, we’ll see…

Question… I have IE v8.xxx.xxxx Latest build… installed… Can I move unto IE v7 ????OR will that automaticlly install with SP 2 when I get to downloading those updates… ????

There’s lots of work left to do with this SE Build just to get CURRENT… BUT… I’m feeling somew comfortable with how it’s going… so far… We’ll see… I can see a speck of light at the end of the tunnel… or is it crow DO-DO… :p

Bill…

p.s. A hi-speed Internet connection would really light up that tunnel…

IE7 is a separate download - it’s not part of SP2…I assume you mean WinXp SP2. I suspect you have IE5 or IE6, not IE8, but that doesn’t matter. :)

Hi phoo:

Thanks for your reply.
I’m still at the Microsoft Update page, downloading files…

Thanks for setting me straight on the IE v7 application…
I think I’ll look for v7 and install it, unless you have and can suggest a reason for not going there…

[EDIT] I forgot… You’re right… It’s IE v6.xx.xxxx or whatever, I have on the se Drive…

I developed an issue loading the correct S/B Drivers for the Sound Blaster audio card I have in this machine…
They don’t look right to me…
The audio sounds O.K.
from the card
but I don’t see WDM Drivers in the audio section of the Device Manager…
I see them entered on the other machines that I have that has the S/B audio cards installed…
I tried un-installing the software and reinstalling them a different way BUT
NO-GO…
the same drivers get installed…
I think it’s because the files are being loaded from the “C” Drive’s Windows Folder…
Could that be the issue…
????

Anyway, I haven’t installed the Lexicon CORE-32 drivers yet…
I’d like to get comfortable with what’s on the C Drive…
SO Far…

I took a break and installed n-Track v4.2.1 b 2099…
What a headache…
However, it loaded and it launches just fine…
I don’t have any .wav files to load on the timeline yet…
I had it all planned how I was gonna load build 2099…
BUT It didn’t happen that way…
I was gonna install v3.3 b 1516
and then install v4.1.5
I don’t know the build…
BUT Flavio calls that file the BIG ONE…
OR…
the version he uploaded for the guys who needed .NET Framwork…
I think it was some 33 meg. in size…
I believe that file included the installer and all to load whatever version it was…
Anyway, I did all the classic mistakes I installed the Build from the CD File…
A BIG MISTAKE…
The version should be loaded from a folder on the Hard drive…
The installer Locked up…
Then…
I had a partially installed n-Track build …
that I had to cold boot from…
Not good for 98SE…
IT became a Safe Mode Removal
and then a second attempt…
This time I loaded v3.3

It loaded and launched O.K.
Then having all the installers and utilities that Flavio and n-Track requires I loaded v4.2.1 b 2099…
That’s where I’m at with n’Track and 98SE…
My next n-Track update will be to load a v5 on this DESK…
My fingers are crossed with hopes that v 5 and the installer will load n-Track v5 on this drive…

Bill…

I’m back to report that the latest build of n-Track is not coded or setup to install on '98SE…

I have v5.1.1 b 2313 setup and working…
as well I have v4.2.1 b 2099…
I’m gonna import some tracks into the timelines to see if the .wav files stream on the timeline like they did on the previous 98SE drive…

Back to V6 and the latest builds…

When the application begins to install v6 b 2339
two popup screens appear…
One on top of the other…
The screen on the top says…
This install application expects to see a later version Operating System to proceed with the install… upgrade your version of windows

The hidden popup screen says A device attached to the system is not functioning
There is no system HANG…
or anything like that…
AND the popup screens close quite normally…
The installer just doesn’t launch…

Bill…

[EDIT]

Hi Flavio:

If your checking these Topics-and-Threads up here…

Is it possible to EDIT or ADD some code to the application launch/string to launch the v6 Installer in '98SE…
????

If you can…
I’ll send you over two Lobsters a bag of Scollops
and a Bottle of Wine…

Waiting for your reply… :D

Hey WOX,
Does that SP 2-1a for 98SE have MSI 3 Installer?
I know it’s got NetFrame 2.0
But you need MSI 3.0
to install N-6.
There seems to be no MSI 3 for WIN98SE.

Yo Flav - will there be an installer for WIN98SE?
Not a big deal - but there are still many die-hard
SE users.
I’m dying here!
