this sucks!
So I’m trying to get my rig ready for some recording,
and do a fresh install of everything. Then when I go
onto the net to validate software, or get the latest updates,
all the gremlins come to visit my rig.
I was only on the net for a total of about 3 hours over
several days. I did not want the anti-virus software on
this setup - so I was out there without a net.
Here is the result:
list of infected files
I had to take the hard disk out and hook it up to my laptop
and do several scans to get rid of all of this.
Just thought I’d post these in case you have files with these
names. They are all viruses or worms.
87 of them all embedded in various places
Anyway, got rid of them all. Defragged, and then ghosted.
So I should be bulletproof now.
Rescan now to be sure your registry is clean too. Scanning files is nice… but there is crap that can be buried in the registry you want to be rid of too… like things that take over your DNS and direct you to look alike sites etc.
Your right! AVG (free) only scans registry on the C drive.
Looks like I’ll have to install it on my other rig after all.
I guess I can remove it after I finish scanning.
Thanks.
FWIW… I have AVG on my recording rig and it causes no problems. Just make sure a auto-scan doesn’t start up on you.

AVG has never been a problem running in the back ground on my DAWs. Love that software… it works, is free, and is out of the way.
Yep. You never know when a “friend” is gonna hand you a CD/DVD or USB stick and say "Here dude! I recorded these tracks with Cubasonarendo XYZ. The wavey thing a mobs are all there. See what you can do with em’ eh?"
Never stick anything in un-protected!
