Vista and ntrack v5

tweeks

Nice work on version 5 Flavio! It’s good to see a smart guy with commonsense. All cool changes, thx.

Ok, I had to get a new laptop for work on the road (trucker) and it has w/vista so I thought why not download Falv’s V5 and see what happens.

I plugged in a 24bit card(sound blaster) and left ntrack default for 24bit recording at 48000hz.
I added a big fat drum track with some thick ntrack reverb and then clicked record to add a second track. nTracked just stared at me as if to say; “R U kiddin me?” A major freeze to say the least. I just poped the battery and retried a few more times with the same big freeze. Then googled; “vista tweeks” and what I found made vista run like xp. I also removed the vista desktop image and removed animation from the cursor. Thats all I’ve done so far but can record with no prob now, with only 512 mgs of ram!

The cause: Vista has a Microsoft program called “SuperFetch” set to monitor user key stokes and what programs one opens. This works by giving those frequented programs priority when loading in the future. Doesn’t work for gamers or free spirited recording folks such as us.

Here’s the tweak I found, first timers remember to back up your registry before trying this.
G/luck.

Run/regedit

I disabled SuperFetch entirely by changing…

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Session Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters\EnableSuperfetch

to 0 (from the default of 3).

If you can’t find the key, just search for EnableSuperfetch in Regedit.

I got into regedit and did the surgery Tom - the crackle has not been heard since. The highs on the vocal even sound better - odd. Maybe it’s just me thinking everythings gonna be alright after all. :)

Thanx for all the help folks.

We need to add thjis to a perminate location on this site. As more and more of us use the Vista system it will be a necessary tweek.

Hi Gents:

I agree with you bax3…
Are those perminate topics called “Sticky” topics ????

Maybe, we might be able to persuade Flavio to create some of those topics and attache them to the Board…
Then the users could check the “Sticky’s”
for quick fixes and maybe, add new workarounds as they are discovered…

With VISTA coming on it might be nice to have a place to check for “Tweeks”…
and all…
to that operating system…
