I am not using the Ntracks/vstplugins folder for my plugins,
is this ok? I read a post saying VSTi’s should be put into the
Ntracks/vstplugins folder.
Are there issues one way or other a new VSTi user should be aware of?

The ntrack VSTplugins folder is whatever you choose in preferences. Is not necesaryly located in the ntrack folder.
I never had problems with it myself. For a long time my vsti’s were in my old ntrack vst folder, and it worked fine.

I did the same thing. However, be careful. One day I decided to "clean up my hard drive a bit and began deleting Old programs that I no longer used. When I deleted an old version of n-Track and Fruity Loops I lost a few of my VST's. I think it's better if you can to centralize them in one folder so you know where they are.
Just my two cents.

definitely. Losing plugins sucks. I lost all of my dx plugins on this reinstall. I have to figure out what I had and go reinstall them…
