dll required, not found on n-Track site
I’m still new to this (n-Track and recording in general) but have been enjoying the use of n-Track for a couple of weeks now.
I am using band-in-a-box to generate my backing tracks (such a nerd, I guess I should get out and play more…). Having finally gotten something I think is enjoyable enough to use, I put down a coupel of guitar tracks this morning.
The only unexpected diversion was that I found it necessary to add compression because I just never got the audio interface (Lexicon Omega), my amps and the rest of the gear all lined up for the range and I ended up with a real distorted lead (breaking up distorted, not what I need…).
So I finally got the midi tracks rendered to audio, lined up all the levels and started mixing down then I ran right into a missing converter for MP3. I switched the selection to wma and then got this error about a DLL missin, followed the links to fasoft site and clicked on the selection there and popped up a dialog that says the dll isn’t there.
Actually rwo are required:
wmaudioredist.exe
WMFADist.exe
and they are both missing.
Can anybody give me a link to the right dlls for this?
Thanks.
The missing mp3 converter is called Lame mp3 encoder.
Hi Gents:
At one time Flavio installed a re-direct window whenever you attempted to convert a .wav file to mp3 or .wdm files… AND…
found that you didn’t have the correct codecs installed to work within n-Track… The mp3 codec should be install into the * BLADEENC * folder… When I open that folder …
there is a folder called * BEnc-0942-Win-i586…
If this is any help…
The file size for the mp3 codec that works on my setup is 184kbs. in size…
( I have XP Home on a P-111 Machine )
There are three-or-four Windows codecs there…
Choose the correct one for your setup…
In that folder there are 5 files relating to the mp3 converter…
The one (codec) that should be installed into n-Track is found
I believe the correct codec for n-Track v5 b 2313 is that one…
At least it works on my setup…
( BEnc-0942-Win-i586 )
I think there are several files on that page…
Download the correct one (for your set-up-and Operating System) and it works like a charm…
A lot of the guys up here chose to use the Win-Amp Audio Utility instead of the built-in converter…
The same with the .wdm converter…
Flavio installed a re-direct that would open the converter files somewhere on his site…
I automatically downloaded-and-installed the .wdm codec and that one works like a charm…
I think the .wdm codec is still up on Flavio’s site…
somewhere…
The .wdm codec that I see installed into n-Track v5 b2313 is called
*
WMADLL.dll *
it is 140 kbs. in size
and it should show up in the C;//ProgramFiles/FAsoft/n-Track Studio 5 Folder…
The codec should be the second-last file in that folder…
At least that’s where the .wdm file is on my set-up…
I hope that is of some help to you and your setup…
Bill…
[EDIT]
p.s.
I had an awful time trying to get the converters to work with-in n-Track…
BUT…
When I got them to work for me-and-my-setup
they seemed to work flawlessly…
Hi Poppa Willis:
I followed your mp3 link/address… I remember those codecs used to work on my setup back before v5… However, I was unable to make them work after v5 builds… I really liked the options created by LAME.dll’s I don’t know what caused them to stop working for me and this setup…
Bill…
I put the lame mp3 files in place and have not gotten back to the point where I need them yet, although they did not seem to produce anything with my two-track mixdowm.
Next I’ll try the blade, but I am still trying to get my midi tracks rendered (another post topic).
Thanks to you both for your help.
If this wan’t so much fun, I’d go lay down in the middle of the highway - NOT!
Hi Again:
Computers are an easy way of making you feel like you know nothing of what you’re trying to produce…
Just when you think you’re feeling good about what you know and get back from you’re machine what you put into it… it decides to make you look like a goof…
Well, that’s what it does to me…
Bill…
Bill,
yeah, I deal with it every day (embedded programming). At least with this audio stuff, the result can be appreciated (provided you start with something of some charm or beauty…) by anybody with an ear.
n-Track is really impressive and I’m sure it can do what I need it to do. I just have to learn how to coerce it gently. Maybe I’ll become an n-whisperer

Hi Gents:
Is the WMA .dll missing from the FaSoft v5 Folder?
If it is …
Is it just a matter of copy-and-paste the Application extension in the FaSoft v 5 folder??
What would be…
and would it work to send richyankee the .dll/application extension over to him as an attachement to E-Mail…
then richyankee copy-and-pastes the file into FaSoft v5 folder…
‘’
The file is some 140 kbs.
Would that work
?
Bill…
Bill,
why don’t we give it a try?
email: richyankee@gmail.com
Thanks,
Rich
Hi richyankee:
It’s on it’s way to your in-mail box…
I hope it works for your setup…
Bill…
Bill,
I put the dll in my n-track directory and although n-track complained a lot the first time, I have made a couple of passes which produced wma with all my tracks!
Thanks.
I’m going to try to sneak up on it now to add some effects…
Rich
whoops. spoke too soon.
I got wave files out and played them through the window media player though…
I have some error with the conversion to wma - it may not be the dll, n is crashing a lot tonight.
I’m going to go play teh guitar
Rich
Remind me what operating system you’re using.
I’m using xp pro sp 2.
Hi richyankee:
I presume your machine is a P-4, of some description…
If you’re interested, and you want to attempt it…
we’ll mail you an mp3 file for you to see if it’ll install on it (your Machine)…
I have two machines…
The editing machine I use for Tracks/files is a P-111 with XP Home installed on it…
The “Studio Machine” that I used to Track with is a P-4 machine with XP Home as the Operating System…
I think that machine has a different mp3 codec running on it.
If I remember correctly, Flavio removed the Lame Codec from working on the v5 builds…
(Something to-do with Patient/Copyright) protections…
The Bladeenc codec works on v5 and later…
BUT I’d really like to get the Lame to work with-in n-Track…
here…
Anyway, if you’re up for it…
Well see if one of these mp3 codecs will install on your setup…
Bill…
Bill,
I’m up for it. The cpu is a p5 I think (I don’t pay much attention to the hardware anymore since they all got over the speed hump a few years ago… but I recall that the system info says something like that, it runs at about 1.8 Ghz or 2.0 - I don’t even remember that. Obviously, I’m away from it right now.)
I tried a couple of low end (cheap to buy and free to try) midi to mp3 utilities and they all failed to work, so I suspect that there is something in the system drivers that is hosed. It could be that installing all those trial DAWs and sequencers etc. has left something fouled up.
So, I have another machine to try it on as well. It’s just an inexpensive Dell laptop, nothing fancy.
(same o/s version and sp)
Thanks.
Rich
It was probably the direct to WMA Codec Flavio had to remove for legal reasons. I don’t remember reading anything about it here but I know WMA is not directly supported by “R” because Justin didn’t want to pay the corporate Nazi’s at Microsoft half a gazillion bucks to get the legal rights to use it. Besides, mp3 is hugely more popular. (Even though it sounds like crap… go figure…)
The Lame mp3 codec is free.
Rich, if you are still having problems converting your MIDI tracks to wave files, drop me another post here or send me a PM. We’ll get you sorted out. I may be a bit rusty with n-Track but we’ll figure it out.
D
I think everything is okay as far as producing wave files (I can freeze the tracks - no problem) and I am going to work on the wma/mp3 conversions.
Between the 2 PCs - I can experiment with one and still have an installation I can rely on for recording, so I can hack away at the second one and try anything.
Thanks again.
Hopefully I’m learning enough to become helpful to others.
Rich
Look around in here. This is the install for the WMA Codecs. There may be other installs need as well, depending on the root of the problem.
(I see they suggest installing WMP 6.4, which will force installation of some older codecs as well).
The MS codecs are free.

These codecs are part of Windows, so if there’s a problem it’s usually because something is a little corrupted, and we all know that can easily happen. Third parties like to “upgrade” shared components as well, with less that sparkling results in other apps…
