1968 Martin 12-String Guitar

Newly acquired Antique

Hi n-Trackers:

Bob returned home from the Christmas Family Visit and brought home a 1968 CF Martin 12-String Guitar with him…
The only thing that is not original and New-Old-Stock is the case…
His plans are to have his Luther look at it and have the pickguard and bridge and neck re-set and the bare minimum overhaul that is necessary to make it as it were, when it was new…

Here’s the link to the photo blog of the instrument before any work has been done to it…

And a couple of first appearance photos of it…

From first appearance it doesn’t look as though this instrument has seen much stage use…
There seems to be very little ware-and-tare to the Wood and Finish…
However, the guitar may have been tuned to A-440 and left there for long periods of time…
I believe it should have been tuned to an Open Tuning below A-440…
e.g. Two Frets below A-440 ????

There would have been less stress placed on the Rib Structure…

Bill…

Nice find.
Can’t wait to hear it recorded.

Yeah, one of my first 12 strings was tuned down a couple of frets IIRC… but it was a long time ago so I may not be recalling correctly.

If were him, I’d seriously consider contacting the Martin Factory people. They may give him a free or reduced cost overhaul for historical reasons. Who knows? I have heard of it happening…

Get in line Tony, I asked first :agree:

Hi Gents:

I just sent some mail over to Bob on your suggestions UJ…

I forwarded your mail on to Bob, regarding this Guitar…
I would hope he takes your suggestion on getting CF Martin to look at this instrument…
I wouldn’t mind taking a run over to the Martin Factory with it…

What-a-Find…

I’m gonna say that finds like this are plastered all over the Maritimes…
Ya just gotta go looking for it…

I’d really like to take a trip over to Nazareth PA…
Nice little trip…
:)
:agree:
Hunt out jerm…
See how he is, these days…

Bill…

We fired up the video camera yesterday in preparation for getting Dale…
the “Fender Twin Amp Guy” when we get him over with that Silver Fac’ed Twin Amp…
I’m hoping that we can post some of the stuff (over on YouTube) he plays on his stage with his toys…
The guy’s a pretty good Guitar Player…
Played with all the “Nashville Kats”…

For what’s that worth…
:p

Bill…

I got a call from Bob this morning regarding the Martin Factory re-fit, on that Guitar…
He’s saying that He plans to get Tom (the Folklore Center Guy) to do the work… However, he thinks it’s a nice idea to visit the Martin Factory and other Guitar Plants up-and-down the States…
There’s plenty of those places over there… Godin and Gibson and you-name-them…
I believe the Steinway Piano Factory is over along there as well…
Are they in New Jersey, somewhere ????
He’s interested in going into the Fender Custom Guitar Center…
I believe they are in Arizona and then to the Fender Amp Factory in California…
I think they are back in Anaheim.
What a trip…
EH ????
