Haven’t posted in awhile (praise be)… but I dusted off this fragment from a couple of years ago. After messing around with it a bit I finally decided that short was sweet, so here’s your basic…
Two Minute Pop Song
Hi jm67
Kind of reminded me of the Smitherreens,
remember them? 'Blood and Roses’
Nice base and harmonies
Nice jm67, very 60’s sound, I LIKE IT!
Yaz
Edit, Smithereens, nah, more Airplane, Byrds, Roger McGuinn sounding to me, but hey, I’m old and love it! Longer song please!
Thanks guys… I did used to like the Smithereens - whatever happened to them? Sort of the same time as Hoodoo Gurus, Squeeze, Crowded House and the like. But I’ve always been a huge fan of the Byrds.
I really like your music. That is so good. Horn part done with…?
Thanks Tom! BTW I’m catching up with all the Spademan songs I missed when I was off the grid. Plato Said is great - those are the sort of weird open chords I’m always trying to find.
For the horns I used a trumpet and tenor sax soundfont I grabbed from the web. I think there’s a real technique (which I haven’t yet grasped) for doing realistic horn parts on Midi. One trick I used was to use the pitch wheel to slightly detune (sharp) the trumpet at the upper end of the register, since this tends to happen when the instrument is blown hard. But getting the attack and phrasing right is a whole other battle…
Brilliant.
I like it too! Very “british” sounding to me. I hear a little Richard Thompson in there.
I know where Mike’s coming from with Richard Thompson. I hear it in the chord progressions. Very nice sounding song but I’ve always thought you could bring out the vocals more in your recordings. You’ve got the voice, no need to hide it,
Cheers
Ian
