Hi everyone,
I’m looking for a quickie vsti bass similar to VB-1…I love the
bottom end of this vsi but I absolutely cringe at the ugly attack sound that I can’t really filter out or tweak.
Basically the fat bass sound you hear on most pop rock songs you hear nowadays.
Thanks
Well, I’ve never used VB-1, but it looks to me to be basically a standard bass instrument attempting to recreate a natural bass sound. If you aren’t going for a “synth bass” sound, then I’d say avoid synthesized bass. You can have the real thing (or closer to it) via soundfonts. Use a VSTi program like sfz or the like. Find a decent bass soundfont and load it up. Then just edit the track like you would any bass track.
I’m sure people can give you suggestions on what soundfonts might work for what you are going for.

Without wishing to put a damper on the original question, there is a little more to getting a tight and deep bottom end by just getting the right instrument. Much work is needed with compression, EQ, and maybe even mastering. Just bear that in mind when working on the bass.
it doesnt really need to sound like a bass guitar.
i tried a lot of soundfonts and i had disastrous results with it. much of the fonts were pitchy…too slappy…too thin…etc…it was worse than using vb1.
i like the sound of those sub bass presets found in minimoogs…where you can get a punchy…pulsey bass tone without the screechy Q freq when you get when you press the keys too hard. (velocity)
just a simple rounded bass tone with a delicious bottom end and some sub bass. i almost found something like this in a vsti but it was too expensive to buy for a bass.
in regards to about using fx…
actually vb1 sounds good on its own except for the ugly plucky clicky attack sound that you’re stuck with no matter what filter/eq you use…it was just too pronounced.
and no matter how much eq/comp/etc with soundfonts i used…it didnt work. to put that much effort to a sample that seems subpar is equivalent to trying “fix in the mix” with badly recorded tracks.
BUT i love the cello soundfonts tho…quite a gem!! just plug in and go. so im not dimissing soundfonts…i used pianos, organs, and strings…but out of all the sites.im having trouble with bass…go figure.
Thanks in advance guys!

Squats, a stair master, and trampoline work is usually necessary too.
Umm… Tight… ok I get that… but the other word… ok, I’m not going there…
Anyway, ON TOPIC I use the 4front bass on occasion if slightly synthy is ok. It’s just a good basic sound. Not a lot of character, but you are going for tone, not character, so that shouldn’t be a problem. There are no settings whatsoever, so you can’t adjust the sound. But you can EQ it and make it sound however you want! BTW, the other VSTi’s aren’t bad either. I’d never tried any of them, but I just checked out their demos, and they sound pretty good.

Does my bottom end look bit in this? (The question all guys dread because there is no answer)
The first triangle synth is free and sounds pretty good for synth bass sounds.
