Build 2137 Discussion

I’m sending the timeline tracks to a group, that goes to a master strip… I’ve tried to draw a the track strips… the group strip… and the master strip… all with NO-GO or end result… I’m not using any aux sends or receives on any of these strips…

Bill…

[EDIT]
I don’t have any aux sends selected or config’d on any of the strips on this project…

This Volume Editing is not going away…

How do ya get a “Close Exception” from editing a volume evolution?

I’m trying anything I know except going on the hard drive platter and cutting out the zero’s-and-one’s with a pocket knife…

Hi All,

I am running 4.2.1 Build 2098 right now. For those of you who have a similar version and still want to use it even after you install 5, did you install the upgrade (or) the full install of 5? I would imagine the full install but thought I would ask first…

Paul

Bill,

I am far from being an expert, but is it possible that your machine is (I’m sorry, bear with me) antiquated? You’re using the PIII right? With 98SE? Maybe you need the resources of a newer box, and XP?

As I say, I’m no expert, and am probably off-base. But being as I’m not technically adept with all theis PC business, I tend to take the pragmatic approach of a guy who just wants to get music done.

Just thinking.

Hi TallPaul:
I stand corrected… but the n-Track… “Large File” contains some Windows applications that aid the the installation of v5 if for example you don’t have NetFrameWork installed on your computer… and If you are unable to complete the install application there are files in the large n-Track that has an installer application I think it’s called "Installer rev. 3.0 or something like that… Also, there are other Windows files that makes your computer report to Flavio as to some of the things like what version you have and the number of tracks you’ve recorded and the number of reproductions you’ve used n-Track to play… There are other things that your computer reports to Flavio as well…

Once you have those applications/files installed on your computer then you only need to download and install the “Small Version” of n-track…

Bill …

[EDIT]

Hi Sloom:
You’re right Sloom… This machine is pretty antiquated as far as some of the machines that are available today… It originally had '98SE installed on it as the operating system… I think it was in April of 2005 that I got a virus and before it was over and fixed about two hard drives failed and the boot drive needed formatting… At that time I decided to install XP Home as the operating system and the machine has been working as a P-111 XP machine ever sense.
I download all the MicroSoft updates and I try to keep it as clean as I can from viruses and spyware and all… I have been hit but the machine seems to recover and continues to behave as well as a P-111 with XP Home on as I’ve seen… If the machine has any shortcomings I’d have to say I like to have a graphics card that would support two monitor screens… I’ve learned to respect it’s behaviour and I would say It cane out preform the P-4 Dual boot machine I have in the studio… As far as it’s performance I’ve had it sense before v3.3 build 1516 and all through the v4’s and builds and to the present builds…

I’ve seen renders of tracks with DX and VST plugs that have taken a 3 minute song as long as 5 minutes to render… It’s not the fastest machine for rendering that I have but it’ll hold it’s own when it’s streaming tracks from a hard drive…

I just don’t understand why I am unable to do volume evolutions on this setup I have here… Non of the machines on this network will perform this task…

In fact here’s another print screen… of this timeline…

I don’t ever remember seeing the RED X ICON in the command line of “Put Volume to Zero” line… Can you check for me if your menu shows the RED X ??

Bill…

That “RED X” has been around forever Bill. It non-destructively puts the volume to -inf to silence the highlighted bits of the wave(s). Sort of a one-click volume envelope drawing tool.

D

The only thing I can think now is… There may be a .dll file or a corrupt .dll or an application extension file that is missing from n-Track install that is causing the issue I have… I hate to uninstall v5 build 2139 to confirm my ideas It takes me so long to re-config a re-install… It’s not as easy as it takes to do it… What with .sng files, and all…

Bill…

I know you’re getting tired of hearing this Bill… but I can’t repro the problem here. I’m on 2140 now and I can draw envelopes all day long with playback running or stopped. I can’t break it.

What exactly are you doing when you get the close exception?

D

Hi Diogenes and Guys:
I’m gonna download build 2142 and install that build tonight…

I can do a destructive edit and all works just fine… If it’s not what I like in the edit I can do an “Undo”… that works just fine… But it’s the “Put volume to 0” command that is in the “Edit” drop-down menu that is not working…

You all know that if for some unknown reason this issue gets fixed and it turns out to be something that I’m doing-or-not-doing here on my end I’m gonna feel pretty humble…

Gentlemen… I’ve been there-and-done-that many times in my days… :O ??? :( :)

After I download and install build 2142 and this issue is still here, I think I’ll “Revert-to-Default” and then see how the n-Track Desk behaves… Who knows?

Bill…

I downloaded and installed build 2142 and found the issue was still there…

I “Reverted to Default”… and the issue was NOT THERE…

Tonight I am gonna work on reconfiguring n-Track build 2142 on this P-111 machine… before I install it on the Studio DAWs…

My behaviour during this matter was less than satisfactory to anyone who visits and or posts on this Board…

I’m working on trying to eat this Humble Pie… I think it needs a little more salt and sugar and maybe some vinegar… However, I’m working on putting it down and behind me… and I need to take a course on some Sensitivity Lessons/Training … again…

Bill…

I wrote some mail and sent it over to Flavio to tell him what I did to fix this and to post my apologies regarding my undo behavior to the Members of this this Board…

Back Again:
I’ve been working on the reconfiguration of build 2142 … There may be a few minute details yet to re-adjust but by-and-large everything seems to be working just fine…

When I install this build in the studio I will drag the undocked mixer onto the second monitor screen as well, any plugs that will be in use… The Strips to the left of the timeline contains a Master and a mouse-clickable timeline strip That wasn’t available in earlier bata or v5 builds… They are able to be re sized but their appearance so far looks just fine to me.

There are a couple of things I’d like to see appear in the mixer strips that I think were there in earlier versions-and-builds that do not appear in the “Current strips”…

However, I want to just play with build 2142 for a while and get used to it’s behaviour and “Feel”…

Thank you for your patients-and-understanding, everyone…
