What’s been fixed, what needs attention?
Now that N v5 has been officially released, it’s time for a new discussion about fixes & bugs. Seems to me, the Beta thread has served its purpose well, but a thread specific to the latest build will help Flavio focus on any outstanding issues we’re facing.
So i’m suggesting we list any outstanding issues here instead of expecting Flav to search thru 17 pages of a Beta thread for issues he’s probably already fixed.
This thread may be short-lived, since Flav responds so quickly to issues, but that’s fine. We’ll start a new thread for 2138, and so on.
If the issue you’re facing was solved with this newest build, let Flavio know by posting here.
If the issue you’re facing wasn’t solved with this newest build, post it again. If someone posts an issue you’re facing as well, chime in with a ‘me too’ post. I figure this might help Flav determine if it’s really a bug or just a problem on a single PC.
Thanks, guys… this forum is one of the reasons N has become so popular. Flavio’s proven he’s willing to respond quickly. Let’s help him identify issues quickly so his time is well spent.

Good idea, Teej,
Maybe this thread can be “pinned” to the top for Flavio’s and our convenience.
I had a registration issue that has prevented me from doing much with my new upgrade to V5. I paid my upgrade fee, got my new 24 bit codes, and installed build 2133. I left V4 installed. Then I ran out of time and didn’t really get to play with the new version. Then yesterday I downloaded and installed 2137, or so I thought. I cranked it up, loaded a .sng file from V4.2 and pressed Play. I got the evaulation 3-tone warning and the evaluation pop-up thing. The “About” screen said “Registered to Me”, but also said it was the 16-bit version, and the build number was 2136, not 2137.
Looking in regedit, my codes were in there correctly. So, I removed and re-installed V5 twice, with the same results. Next I downloaded the “big” version and installed it. This time I see Build 2137 on the “About” screen, but still 16-bit. And I’m still getting the evaluation tones. I have emailed Flavio about it, but so far no answer.
Maybe someone out there has had this issue and can throw a fix or workaround my way.
Thanks in advance to all.
Don
Hmmmm… Sounds like Flavio sent you 16-bit Reg codes, Don. Were you running the 24-bit version of v4? If so, it was prob just a mistake.
I’d guess that Italy is about 7 or so hours ahead of us. Flav may be getting some well-deserved rest. I bet you’ll find an email from him tomorrow morning.

Alright, I am going to be in Rome in about two weeks… send me all your gripes and I will officially present them to Flavio as I appear unannounced on his door step. Just promise me when the polizia haul me away, one of you fellers will pay my bail. BTW, when I travel, I take an assumed name. I will be registered as a Mr. Fesso Stronzo so you know who to address when you send the money via Western Union.
Eyup!
Bubba, I’ll email you the login details to my paypal account
Well, I installed the “big” version 5 and am happy to report that it appears to co-exist quite happily with 3.3 so now I have a chance to evaluate it.
First impressions are that it is as stable as 3.3 on my machine (good) and that it is a quantum leap ahead of V4 which would hardly work for me at all (excellent!)
However, there are a couple of issues in that it seems to “do” something to the .npk files meaning that, after opening a song previously created with 3.3 and without saving it under V5 when I then re-open the song with 3.3 the .wav file display on the timeline is all mussed up (mostly maxed out).
This only seems to be only a cosmetic problem, the song plays fine and if I rebuild the .wavs all is back to normal.
The second issue I will have to delve deeper into as I am not sure how I caused it, but after opening and closing the mixer and individual channel strips, just playing about with them really, I was left with one third of the screen just comprising of various sized red blocks (the right side, where the “navigator” is) and I lost the navigator and eq display window.
I have found V5 to be a little more resource hungry, but I don’t intend to use it with this pc (PIII 933 512MB RAM) so I’m not worried about that.
Now all I have to do is build my new DAW and I’m all set to upgrade.
AMD or Intel anyone ?
Steve
Steve, after the red blocks appeared, how did you restore your screen?
AMD seems to work fine for me… that’s not the part that caused a problem with my PC. It was a power supply- but anyway, AMD was just fine. My very limited experience…
Build 1239
using Realtek AC97 MME drivers on low buffer setting causes tracks to play slow, using Realtek AC97 WDM drivers on same buffer setting tracks play OK! increasing buffer size clears the problem…
unless fixed in the last two days
midi fader setup - volume controls 6 and 7 are faulty - jog control only goes left, this is because N takes all potentiometer controls as reading 1 to 127 (low to high) jog control is three staged - should be 1 to 63 travel left - 64 stationary - 65 to 127 travel right
THE BIGGEST PROBLEM WITH N IS THAT IT DOES NOT UNDERSTAND MIDI SYX CONTROLS (system x)
what this means is that if your midi controller is simple (just using pots as the controling method) then you may get it to work OK, but if your controller is more complicated ie Behringer / Roland / and many multitrack recorders that send out midi then PLAY/STOP/FORWARD/REWIND/JOG controls will mot be recognised - i have a Behringer 3216 mixer / Fostex multitrack recorder and a Roland SP606 all of which have transport controls / jog wheels etc to which N is stone deaf … If you read trade mags then you will see that more and more controllers now have transport controls, buying them for use with N will leave you with only partial qperation…
SECOND AND 'EVEN BIGGER GRIPE’
N does not support BROADCAST WAVE FILES -
at one time N had a menu that allowed you to add extra info into your tracks (like MP3 header info) (artist, date producer etc)… BROADCAST WAVE FILES are important when producing tracks for Radio/TV/Video use… the nearest competitor that supports BROADCAST WAVE FLES is Cakewalks Sonar, but that is 6+ times dearer than N, i am sure that if Flavio added this capability to N it would increase sales as it would bring a of project studios to N…
Recent fix on toolbar crashing problem (reported as on being in win98 but happened in my win 2k is not yet right) clicking on say ‘FILE’ opens the drop down menu, but moving mouse down loses the drop down, if you wait about 5 seconds before moving mouse down then works OK…
Playing tracks in SOLO mode (which is a great feature)… clicking arrow on track starts solo play but if you stop the track and start it again then N will return to the start and will generate an audio BLIP and may stop, needing to be started again…
i tried this years ago, but the fault may still be there, when using N on two computers linked by midi, the two work (syncronize) perfectly for short tracks but on very long tracks (over 30 ninutes) at about the 30 minute marker N inserts an offset and the MTC jumps forward by 15 minutes…
Back to MIDI faders… i have an Edirol PCR M1 kb/controller, if i save the settings OK, but on reloading the settings at a later date (ie on installing latest version) the settings load OK, but are not recognised and have to be programmed in again…
Have not tried this for a month, may be fixed
when using rewire with Cakewalk Kinetic or Ableton Live, no audio is fed into N, and N crashs soon after trying…
when inserting instrument channel, no channel is displayed this is OK untill you close the instrument, then you have to display trackmixers and open the instrument again from there, (i domt usually have mixers on display) i think that there should be a box that displays what instruments are in use and that they can bo opened by clicking in that box…
oh i nearly forgot… altering the transpose settings on a midi track (track properties) has no effect at all, and why does it show up on audio tracks? (should be greyed out)
yours Dr J
You were right, Teej,
I had an email from Flavio in my box this morning with new codes. I downloaded 2138, put in the new codes, and voilá!
It now shows as 24 bit. I won’t be able to test it out until this evening, but for now all looks good.
Flavio is the greatest when it comes to responding to problems. I’ve had very few occassions to contact him over the 5 years I’ve been using n, but it’s always a quick response.
Hats off and raise your glasses high to Mr.Antonioli!!!
Don
I’m wondering if he wasn’t abducted and replaced by an imposter who did v4.
From the release of v5 it really looks like the old Flavio is back.
Hi Wihan and Everybody on this Thread:
This v5 is looking pretty nice, on the setup I have going here…
I’ve been working very hard on the disappearing timeline/NPK file NOShow… I’ve been checking this issue with every DAW and operating system (XP Home and "98SE Desk) in my setup… It happens with all DAWs and operating systems…
It looks like and … if I have the terminology correct have something to do with the “VIEW ALL FILE” icon button on the n-Track Tool-Bar…
It happens with repeatability if… I press the View All File icon and the icon (button) does not return to the “DEFAULT” position… (the icon stays depressed and does not return to the normal position) when I minimize n-Track to the Windows desk Task-Bar… … When I maximize n-Track to the desk the NPK files will not appear on the timeline till I close n-Track and re-launch n-Track…

MIDI transpose was working for me.
Transpose is available the audio tracks because V5 actually supports transposing wave files on the fly now. It tries to keep them in sync as well. Nope, not need to gray it out.
Hi Flavio and Guys:
I’m in the middle of mastering a project and I’m using build 2139 for the editor and task…
The first render for me and the project looks like this printscreen… I attempted the render several times… all with the same outcome…
The render complets and is able to be imported into n-Track for the next part of the process… But just at the very end of the render the close exception appears… The project is being done on the P-111 XP desk… When I get all the tracks edited/mastered/and whatever, I’ll import the renderd tracks into the studio for completion… But what could be causing this issue/screen?
Bill…
Bill
Build 2139 also crashes on my machine after mixdown. Your experience is duplicated exactly.
T
Hi tspringer:
Thank you for the reply… I thought it might be something on this end… I feel relieved seeing your post…
The file I rendered plays just fine… I’m thinking there is something in the code that closes n-Track after the render command completes… or something… Who knows? I think I’ll continue rendering this project… I have the cuts all lined up to put them through the process… I got 9 more to do…
My server and I have a mail overload…
I can’t get to my mail… or something is keeping me from opening my mail… If it ain’t one thing… it’s a dozen things…
I’ve found a work-around for the Windows/n-Track/ timeline sizing issue I have… So, now I don’t care if Flavio looks at the issue I have or not… I got it working on the P-111 editing machine… I need to go into the studio and bring the P-4 dual-boot machine up to “Current” again… It goes on continually when Flavio posts build updates… AND… if it isn’t addressed and kept updated/and/current it leads to other and untold issues… Computers…
Bill…
[EDIT]
I just completed the first part of the Mastering of this project…
My report is…
Not all the renders caused the “Close Exception” of n-Track… Out of the 10 tracks that I processed to the “Render” three caused a close exception… Why those three?? I have no idea. I was surprised that the second one was NORMAL
I went on to the third and found that n-Track closed… I don’t know the reason… Each process I did went according to QUE… I couldn’t find any detail that I could see that caused the “Close Exception”… When I LAN import the files into the studio I’ll try to pay more attention to any Close exceptions… and take note of what I find…
I’m not able to get the “Draw Volumn Envelopes” to work on build 2139…
It looks like it’s working but when you repro the loop no level change has taken place…
Bill…
Bill
The volume envelope is working fine for me. Crash after mixdown does not alway occur, but occurrs frequently.
T
Mixdown sometimes crashes here on build 2139. I have not seen any weirdness with volume envelopes.
The first time I did a mixdown, I had “Use sound cards settings” as I usually do and it worked perfectly. Trying to repro the problem though, I changed to 16 bit mixdown. It appeared to mixdown the file then crashed. The 16 bit mixdown played back fine though. Next, a reboot. Tried the same test again. No crash.
D
I got used to selecting the bit depth rate as opposed to using the soundcard’s settings. I think it’s because I have a choice with the audio cards and their ability to operate in more than one bit depth rate…
I havn’t found a workaround for this volumn evolution issue yet… I know there’s a drop-down menu to select/choose the process… But that doesn’t appear to be why the volumn doesn’t change…
Bill…
Are you sending any signal from those tracks to an Aux buss pre-fader?
