somebody took it
Hi, maybe here somebody could point me in the right direction. Problem is I had a domain and it expired, then when I had the money to re-register it I wanted to transfer it to another registrar so I could consolidate all of my domains.
My original hosting company told me I had to wait 90 days so I could transfer that domain, it was in a “redemption period”. Then, some days before the 90 days period was over I noticed some domain-resell company had took it and they don’t list any contact information on their site.
How can I get it back? How’s the procedure for setting a domain name on dispute?
Thanks in advance,
Loauc.
BTW, the domain is sigmax-telecom.com
That happened to me with a domain name before, and believe me, once a domain squatter gets hold of it you’ll have a hard time getting it back…
Your only hope at this moment is to get the original registrars to admit they made a mistake, and let them worry about getting it back for you.
What normally happens now is you email the squatters asking for it back, and they’ll say “ah, you’re interested in sigmax-telecom.com? - we’ll sell it to you for $1,200” - After some arguing to and fro they might drop the price to $1,000, and then give you a final ‘offer’ of $500 or so.
The only way to get the domain name back from them is to go through the domain arbitration procedure at http://arbiter.wipo.int/arbitration/index.html
The trouble is, last time I checked, this cost $1,200 (now you can see why the squatters normally start with $1,200 as their starting price, as it’ll cost you the same to get the domain back through arbitration…)
You’ll also have to prove to WIPO (the arbitrators) that you actually own the domain name, you’ll have to show a trademark or something.
To be honest, in the end I gave up and registered a different name. It was just taking too much time and frustration arguing with the squatters. The name became available a year later, but I couldn’t be bothered registering it then, as I had all the letterheads and emails moved across to the new one.
Sorry I can’t be more positive-sounding. But squatters are impossible to deal with.
Ultra WHOIS info on the site is as follows:

So yeah, definitely a squatter.
The only other suggestion I can think of is to register:“sigmax-telecom.org” instead, as UltraWHOIS indicates that it is available.
Granted, it’s a poor work-around. But it won’t cost you $1200.
I was afraid that was the only way to go, and a rather expensive way I must say.
I guess it’s time to register sigmax-telecom.net
Thank you guys,
Loauc.
…or sigmaxtelecom.com, which is not taken.
It actually costs $1200 to get the ball rolling, and then another $1200 to see it through till the end. If you don’t have an official US Trade Mark on the name, you don’t have a leg to stand on. And the trade mark has to be valid before the guy grabbed it, about $250.
When you get a name register it for 10 years, pay the 80 bucks and you’ll sleep better at nights.
