I watched it yesterday…
Make no mistake, these terrorists are brutal barbarians. I’ve watched other beheading videos (Berg for example) but this one was truly gruesome beyond compare.
However, this still doesn’t change my views on Iraq. I think it was a mistake to go there in the first place & I still do.
Yeah… It’s seriously messed up… You hear about it on the news, but… Man, there’s no way to describe something like this. Nobody deserves to die like that.
I agree. A good clean sword would be better (like they would really use in a beheading).
But what about the innocents kids & woman that die from burns, etc. from our bombs?
I'm not justifying the beheads because they are wrong, but killing is killing isn't it?
To be logical. Civilian workers present in Iraq are fully aware of the risks they face. It is, after all, still a war zone. And is now more dangerous than it has ever been.
If they are not prepared to take the risk, then they should not be in the country.

Hey, that's horrible too - no question about it. And as much of a Fox News whore that I am, I have to admit that we don't ever see a whole lot of coverage of that. It makes it easier to push it into the back of your mind when you don't really see what is going on there.

Heh. Nobody is prepared to take that risk.

Then what are they still doing there? - I'm sure flights out of Iraq can be arranged quickly enough. They could evacuate all the foreign civilian workers within a few days. That eliminates that problem.
Okay, there are still 'domestic' kidnappings happening, but evacuating foreign workers and keeping US, sorry multi-national, forces in their bases gives the militants fewer people to shoot at and kidnap. It's obvious the 'infidels' are their main target.
Trying to earn a living and feed their kids. These guys make 3x what they would make here... and if you had been hunting for a job for a long time, this may look to be an option. I dunno, this kinda stuff makes we want to move to a shack on a mountain side somewhere. People doing this to other people is beyond me and almost makes me want to cry.
I agree w/ jhonan but with the caveat, that they need to be told accurately what the risk is. I wonder if they are being told that?
You won't hear FOX news say anthing bad about this war or Bush.

Unless they don't have TV, radio, or newspapers then I can't see how they could not be aware of the risk. And the Arab media tends to be a bit more direct in their reporting.
The only reason they would have to have the risk precisely pointed out to them is if they are totally oblivious to their surroundings and think they're working in just another ordinary country in the Middle East.... But do you really think anyone flying into Baghdad airport isn't aware of what they're letting themselves in for?
…
The odds in Iraq for foreign workers are considerably higher than any other location or occupation I can think of. Regardless of how much money they’re getting paid over there, it doesn’t do your family much good arriving home in a wooden box.
In fact, it seems that the soldiers in Iraq have a safer job than the foreign workers these days, as they can remain inside their heavily fortified bases, have body-armour, and have weapons. Yea, I think it’s accurate to say that being a foreign worker in Iraq is even more risky than being a soldier there.
I agree w/ jhonan. If the civilians don’t know the risks, let’s hope they know them now.
If you want to see distressing… Watch the video of Ken Bigley pleading for his life. It’s absolutely terrible.
Okay, I know they have to maintain a public face of ‘not negotiating with the terrorists’ - But surely Tony Blair knows this won’t play well at home if Ken Bigley is executed. Especially as this latest video has been shown on TV here.
This is just awful. The Jack Hensley video is on the net. I’m worried I’m getting desensitised to watching these poor people having their heads sawn off…
Or perhaps we’re all getting desensitised to the true horror of what’s going on over there?
Ken Bigley is as good as dead.
I watched the 2nd video & you do get de-sensitized. The Armstrong video was worse IMO but they are both horrific.
This is just about as evil as it gets.
