Fender Deluxe TV Tweed Amp

Back Again:

Thanks for that reply…
I’d be interested in seeing that link you talk about…
I’ve chased down several links but I’ve not see an E-Bay or Amazon listing on this Deluxe TV model…

I am disappointed on how this deal progressed, to say the least, however, if I don’t move on I’ll end up getting ugly over this… sigh…

This morning Bob and I took a bunch of photos of a Supro Amp that he just acquired …
We are gonna begin to restore it…
I’ll open up another topic and post some photos we took of this amp… This amp could very well be a Sears Production Model made by Danelectro… ??? ?

Also, I got that Gibson Amp (the GA-6) outta the old studio this morning and took some more photos of this old relic…
It doesn’t have the Gibson logo on the front of the cabinet and it doesn’t have the original speaker mounted on the baffle…
but the speaker is almost acceptable…
It’s a Marsland Canadian made Pacer 12" speaker…
Paper voice coil and the magnet is not an alnico, but a pressed ceramic of a close alternative size…
This amp has seen some stage use/work…
It has seen some bench service, as well…
BUT…
not much, in my opinion…
It doesn’t have any 6V6 tubes… A decent pair is gonna be needed for it… At the get-go…
We’ll see…

Bill…

[edit]
OoHh…
I asked Bob, the question…
That Tele, in the photo… is an Off Shore Import '91…
I’m surprised he has a Tele Import, among his collection… Most of his instruments are real, and not knock-offs…
There must be some qualities about that guitar that is special to him…
I never asked him that question… hehe

He has a second Harmony Bass Guitar…
We talked about…
I believe he wants to put it in the new Studio , to have it on-hand…
So-to-Speak…
:)
:agree:
It doesn’t have the original finish on it…
The body has been stripped clean…
His plans are to apply a few coats of sealant to it (the body) to seal the grain…
and leave it like that…
You see, without the original finish, the value of the instrument has been compromised…

Hi TomS:

I missed you reply on this topic…
Sorry… This is the first link to E-Bay I’ve seen on this amp…
He (the seller) goes into pretty good detail on this amp, he has…
As I scanned the photos all looks good till I saw the Power Transformer Image…
I’m gonna look at the photos again…
For some foul reason I believe that, if Leo used Triad Iron, he didn’t leave the Triad Logos on any transformers he mounted on the chassis that came outta his assembly lines…
However, I stand corrected on that statement…
Every thing else looks good…
Even the slip-on cover…
Even the tubes look NOS…
but not the originals…
That’s normal…

The amp that I saw looks as clean as that one, if not better… I didn’t see the slip-on cover for the one I saw…
I didn’t get the opportunity to take the back panel off to peak at the inside…
All I did to the amp was, to pick it up to give it “The Blind-man’s Feel”, of it…
sigh…

Don’t get me goin…
:p
:)

Bill…

[edit]
Would I pay that much for that Amp…

??
Certainly NOT… Hey lol…

I might be a loonie canuck… but not a twonie/loonie…

ALso I wanted to add..

I have seen Fender Deluxe Tweed guitar CASES of the time period (68) go for what they are asking for this amp.

keep shinin

jerm

I hear you..
That '64 Fender Bass I have came as stock in a pseudo Fender case.. There was a period when Leo sold instruments and cases separately..
If you bought the instrument with a case you got a real factory case.. If you bought the instrument without the case the distributor supplied the case but not a real Fender case..
At least that's what I'm lead to believe up here in Canada..
The '61 Jazz Bass I had, came with a Tweed Case..
The '64 P Bass came with this funny looking Black Bound-and-Stiched Case..
The Bass really didn't fit properly with the case.. Too sloppy and all..
Anyway, after tolerating the case for several years I bought a toilex Black case (Fender) .. I have both cases .. However, I only use the Later edition case with the bass..
I'm not sure what type of case should be for a P Bass.. ????
should it be a tweed case?

I really feel uncomfortable about this Amp Deal..
I'm not a bonafide collector of Classic/Vintage Music Equipment..
To be considered a classified collector you have to be stinking wealthy .. and have a truck load of Money..

Bill..

Bill - if that Tweed Deluxe is in good shape, then $750 is a steal. As you may remember, I’ve owned a bunch of vintage amps in my day. I bought a '67 Deluxe Reverb a while back and restored it. I ended up selling it for $1,600 to a guy in Japan. I didn’t make much on deal but I got a chance to try out this amp. At times I regret getting rid of it.

I also have a '62 Brown Vibrolux that I got on eBay for $650. I could easily get +$1,500 if I were to sell it.

For quite sometime I’d been trying to get a BF Vibrolux Reverb but those amps tend to be quite pricey. Last spring, I finally lucked out and got a '64/65 on eBay that was in need of repair. I paid a little more for it than I would like but I compeletely restored the amp and now it’s now worth at least $2K if I were to sell it.

BTW - I just put together a Warmoth LP with a Fender neck. Instead of tone controls, I put 3-ways switches on so I can get all kinds of tonal variations. Fun project & now the guitar is my main instrument.

Hi Mr Soul:

While I was contemplating this deal I could find no E-Bay or Amazon listings to compare this amp to…
Then…
all of a sudden, one appears on E-Bay with the slip cover for 3500.00That is so hard to believe…
Only a rich Vintage/Collector could justify that kind of money…

I heard you talking about your collections a while back…
You’ve got some nice equipment…
Don’t be parting with that stuff… You Hear ????

Bill…

Yes - considering the amp is/was one of the least expensive amps for Fender to build (besides the Champ).
So did you get it?

If so, I would immediately get your amp tech to check it over and replace tubes, etc.
This amp will be great for recordings and/or small gigs.

BTW - Fender has re-issued a '57 Deluxe, which is the younger brother of the TV amp, and they want around $2K for it.

Back Again:

I went out there with a pocket full of 100.00 bills…
Well 6 of them…
I was prepared to settle for that amount…
Taxes-in…
I didn’t go in…
My buddy acted on my behalf…
As you are aware, I have little-if-any dealing skills…
Anyway, he was told that the amp wasn’t available… Bob (my buddy) didn’t specifically ask for the amp…
I’m pretty sure that the amp was placed in the back room, waiting for me to come in and do the deal for 750.00 plus taxes…
Taxes are 15% on the sale, in these parts…
Now. I’m stuck between a rock and a Hard-Place…
My other buddy… Donny was the guy who set the deal up…
He placed 750.00 on it…
He is quite influential, with this owner… SO… ????
What do I do, NOW ????

You see. I could spend 100.00 for a tube set…
Till it comes apart, and… I do this work…
Anyway, who knows what else it might need?
Site-Unseen, It’s worth all of that money… As you are aware, this stuff has no value to anyone till whoever wants one and is prepared to lay out the bucks…
Seeing that E-Bay lists one for 3500.00 including the slip cover…
That just about removes me from the loonie bin…

Bill…

Bill - I am not quite sure I am following you but are you saying that you can get the amp for $750 + taxes. If so, then I would buy it if it’s in good cosmetic shape. You can fix the insides but you can’t really fix the outside w/o ruining the vintageness of the amp.

Then I would get it serviced by a good amp tech. Then you’ve got yourself a nice vintage amp that you can either play or re-sell on ebay.

Hi All:

I made a call this morning to the Buy-sell Shop…
The amp is still there…
I believe my name is still at the top of the list, waiting for me to lay out the bills…
He knows it was me on the phone…
We talked 700.00 plus 15% sales tax…
Do the arithmatic…
700.00 + 70.00 + 35.00

805.00 loonies…

From what I can remember, the one I’m dealing for looks better than this on…

If all goes well…
maybe, by the end of the week…
We’ll see…

Bill…

Bill - I would definitely try to play the amp before you buy.
As with most amps of that age, plan to have to put some $ into repairing it.
The good news is that the cap’s, tubes, etc. all can be replaced.
As I mentioned before, it’s hard to “replace” the cabinet and original tweed cloth w/o ruining the value of the amp.

I follow vintage Fender amps on eBay and you probably wouldn’t get $3,500 on eBay for this but restored, you could get $1,500 - 2,000 for it.

I’ve owned some 5E3 clones (the narrow-panel Tweed Deluxe) and I liked them a lot.
But the TV front sounds really sweat.
I think it’s worth $700 (but plan on doing some maintanence on it).

BTW - the other popular Tweed amp is the Tweed Champ.
I recently read an article in GP with Jeff Beck and he said he used a Champ on one of his recent recordings.
And of course, it’s rumored that Clapton used one on Layla.
Someday I am doing to build one (from a kit) - I always have a cabinet and speaker I got on ebay.

Hi Again Mr Soul:

Thanks for coming back to this topic…
I probably am beginning to sound like an old record to you guys about this amp…

I saved this link to one on E-Bay…
It’ appeared about a week after I first saw this amp…
I was sure it (the amp I’m looking at) was some kind of Knock-Off…

Here it is again…
Anyway, this amp at this buy/sell shop looks to be in better condition than this E-Bay one…
We’ll know by tomorrow if this Amp is gonna get sold…
The amp I’m looking at does not appear to have a slip cover…
I only saw it for about 20 minutes…
I don’t wantta get my hopes too high…
I initially walked away from it…
Now, I’m putting my best foot forward…
I’d say again, maybe, by the end of the week, we’ll know…
???
:)
He tells me he has an offer on this amp… BUT
We know…

:(
:)

Bill…

[edit]
OoHh…
The E-Bay one…
look at the condition of the grill cloth…
The one over here has better looking grill cloth…

How about one of these, Bill?

http://www.themusiczoo.com/categor…ampaign

Hi TomS:

What a beautiful page…
That stuff looks pretty nice…
When the package looks that good, I know there’s nothing left out, in design, component selection, or workmanship…
For that kind of money, expect no issues when you plug one of them in…

I don’t recognize or know who he is… But…
I’d say he’s one of the “Old-School” guys…
They are probably all point-to-point, hand wired, no circuit boards…

AaHh…
He’s out on Long Island…
I’m still browsing his page…
Yep…
Hea…

Bill…

Hi Gents:

I went to the Buy-Sell Shop today and picked up the Amp…
However, it’s not the amp that I originally saw at the shop some 3-4 weeks ago…
This amp is a '90-91 (dated Serial Number) Fender Wide Faced Tweed Deluxe Reissue Amp…
I have a series of photos uploaded to the Photo Blog Page

The only piece missing to the Amp is the Slip Cover…
Gentlemen, This Amp sounds Pristine…
The tubes are all original Groove Tubes that are Fender logo’d…
The amp is all original in all appearances…

Some quick photos of the amp…

At first appearance, the Amp has seen little-if-any stage use…
The cabinet looks unscathed, in most respects…

The only let-down is, the Amp is a 20 year old Fender Re-issue, made in Corona CA.
'57 Delux Re-issue Amp.

We fired up the Amp… IT SINGS…
:agree:
:)

Bill…

Killer. When they say “reissue” do they mean that it’s all the same, point to point wiring and a real tube rectifier and all that sort of stuff that I sort of barely understand?

Nice Score Bill.

Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy
:)

My pops would swoon over that baby he’s fender all the way.
:agree:

There’s just somethin about that proprietary combo of Fender Strat/Tele & Amp, a pipeliners dream…

keep shinin

jerm

Hi TomS and All:

It hit me as soon as I grabbed the power plug… Bob Was there and we looked at each other…
It has a Three-pin power plug…
We both said it at the same time…
RE-ISSUE
:)
:p
… Had it been an original vintage amp it would have had a Two-pin power plug… Bob is an electrician, by trade…
We both are familiar and are aware of “The Code”(s). Back in the days…
There was no “Green” wire and “Neutral”…

The circuit design is “point-to-point component wiring… There is a Black Bakelite component board, BUT…
the components are present-day manufactuered Resistors-and-Capacitors, pots, switches and jacks, and all…
Even a rebuilt vintage amp would have present day manufactuered components…

I’m just surprised that a re-issue Deluxe Amp is valued at $2600.00, irregardless of what they sell for…

The other thing that bothers me is, I know I saw a TV Front Amp 3-4 weeks ago…
Even though I only saw the amp for minutes… maybe 15, at most…
and/but I never paid much “Never-Mind” to it then… Where did that amp go ?

It’s my understanding, that Amp Covers are an accessory for the amp…
So… in that regard, I’d like to get an Amp Slip Cover, for this thing…
I think the amp deserves one…

Looking back over the past few weeks… That deal became a struggle on my nerves
hehe…

It’s my opinion, of course…
What a beautiful Amp…
:)
:p
:agree:

My attention now shifts toward that Ampeg B15N Bass Amp…
That’s the Classic/vintage Amp…

Bill…

[edit]
I forgot to mention…
Flavio…
That Special Design P12Q 12” Jensen Speaker is built in Italy…

I’m a Fender Freak, Tooo…

No reason to buy vintage if the reissue is the same quality cheaper! Crank it up! :agree:

The first question the the shop owner asked me was…
Am I gonna resell this Amp?
The wrong answer for me would … Tell him yes…
The whole complexion of the deal would have changed, I’m sure…
When I left the shop I know he felt much more comfortable with the deal…
Hopefully, it’ll become another toll of the studio operation…
I’ve got no plans to part with this amp.

Bill…

:agree:

Well that amp from 90-91 is going to be antique/vintage in a few years, the 25 year mark, and the way it is holding it's value it wouldn't surprise me if it went up in that time.
