I hate those UFO contoured bodies. Those Line 6 guitars and some of the Ibanez models just pure vomit to me, looks wise.
I'm not a fan of the Lyrebird's body style, but having 27 frets is intriguing. I like the split pickup idea too with a single coil at the neck and a humbucker at the bridge. I would definitely want to play one of these guitars before I would truly consider buying one.
As for other contoured bodies, I don't mind them as much. My Variax is a comfortable guitar to play. It's mostly like a Strat.
Good question StuH… That’s a point I haven’t considered before. But it seems to me that thinner/thicker wouldn’t effect finger positioning much because you can move the guitar backward and forward a few inches without effecting the orientation of the wrists relative to the neck very much at all. The angle of the elbow increases as the guitar gets thinner, but as far as I know, that is not an issue to be concerned with.
I’ll remember your explanation about what to look for in a guitar, but I think that I’ll exand it to be about 90% how it sounds, 90% how it looks, and 90% how it feels. That should about cover it.
I play an early 90’s '52 reissue and love it. I can’t find anything else that I would like, nearly as well as the feel of that gtr. The only mod I did was put a Texas Special p/u in the neck position. Good luck in your searching!
