Folk Roots

Y’all may not know this about me, but Mountain has always been WAY up on my list of favorite bands, in spite of the fact that much of the actual songs weren’t very good. Some songs were as good as any anywhere anytime but many couldn’t hang. The saving grace was execution, specifically Leslie and Felix. Their sound could carry almost anything.

In a way, that song is prophetic, with Gail being the hunter and Felix being the partner/victim taken from Leslie.

I can listen to Leslie West guitar playing all day and never get tired of it.

I was fortunate to see Mountain many times, West Bruce and Lange, and later Leslie West’s different bands. There’s no one else like him…which is probably a good thing. He can be a real booger when he isn’t pleased…

Mountain’s Nantucket Sleighride was used as the theme tune to one of those boring political programs that my parents watched on TV when I was a kid.

Didn’t know what the song was until I was a bit older and started to get into non-chart music.

So just about everyone over 40 in the UK has heard Mountain but didn’t know it.
