thought this might be good:

But it wasn’t.
Unless you’re just looking for something to jam guitar solos or something.
What do you suppose that Backing-Maker, is worth ?..
I didn’t see it posted anywhere…
Bill…
Not free of course, but the only proggie I’ve seen worth a hoot for this is Band-In-A-Box from PG Music. It cost a few bucks but is well worth it IMO.

I thought it might be a little bit like BIAB, perhaps cut down, but it doesn't even come close. It's free but you have to register it after 7 days (I won't be). I guess there must be a bigger product there somewhere that it's trying to draw me into.
You get to pick a style (from about 4 or 5), the song structure is fixed but you can turn-off (eg) a verse or intro, and it does guitar, bass, drums. You have to "render" to file to hear it, and when you do it sounds wrong IMO.
You can alter tempo but I didn't notice if you can change key. You can't alter the chord progression or anything like that.
Not worth the download methinks.
I tried it out, too. Mark’s assessment is bang on the money.
I suspect that after you register you’ll be given the option to buy features like additional styles, key change, etc.
I uninstalled after one render - not worth the bother IMO.
Could it be twisted in some way?

Don't think so. I guess you could render the tracks individually and pull them into your DAW for cut-and-pasting. Don't see the point though.
Ah, I see that it is a Magix product. They aim at a certain sector of the market, one that is not too musically or technically inclined.

Actually about 20 years ago I had a Win 3.1 music notation sequencer by Magix that I used to make midi drum tracks. Hard work but functional. But yes, there stuff generally isn't that great.

Absolutely correct

Err… Samplitude… Sequoia… both Magix products. Very feature laden and popular in movie/TV post production and scoring.

true. I was mostly thinking of Music Creator.
Wish you could delete posts on here… doh.
true.

MC is kind of limited and cheesy ... but in my pre-Reaper days I used MC to 'score' a video for work. Mostly because the video handling was stable and importing my music tracks was a snap. I know what you mean though, Magix has everything from $19.99 cheez stuff up to the big bucks "pro" stuff.

PS I have Samplitude Music Studio something or other... really nice, stable program. Its track count is limited though AND they limit how many simultaneous I/O you can use in this 'bargain' version.
