hello friends !
what compressor-plugins do you use ?
Í´m using GeneComp / GranComp (from the BuzCompFree bundle >> www.x-buz.com) …
Do you think that is a good one or have you better free ones ?
Thx for your answers …
Steffen
The ones bundled with n V4 work pretty darn well IMO. One my favorites though is the free stuff from Kjearhaus. The “Classic” series of plugs are still freebies. The Compressor and Master Limiter see a lot of use in my setup.

Of the free, non-FASoft comps, the Kjearhaus and Blockfish are the only two I thought sounded good. Of the not-so-free ones, ya gotta try PSP vintage warmer.
The fasoft comp works pretty good for me, though I play around with Blockfish sometimes.

Wow... $149 for a software compressor. They sure are proud of thier stuff...
I use Blockfish, N-track natives and somtimes Kjaerhus Classic. I doubt I’d ever need yet another one.
thanks for your answers …
ok, I´ll test the n-track, the Kjaerhus Classic and the Blockfish plugin and try, which is the best for me

None are really going to be the "best" I use the n-track as a general-purpose compressor, and the Blockfish more as an effect (try the "Close Vocals" preset) on the vocals.
If you think the Kjaerhus classic is quite good, you should try the golden series one. It blows the freebie out of the water.
Of course you’ve gotta be prepared to shell out $$, which is not for everyone.
Cheers,
Johnny
I should add a bit more since my post above was not really helpful in terms of suggesting free compressors.
I realised that since this home recording thing is currently my main hobby, I should be prepared to pay if the results are worth it (kind of like getting a flasher set of golf clubs!!).
What I was looking for was the three biggies - EQ, compression and reverb. Some sort of mastering tool will be on the list eventually.
I did some investigating, as decided the the Kjaerhus compressor and EQ really are good so I got them.
The golden compressor makes drums sounds awesome. I couldn’t get the classic compressor to do anything like what the golden one can do.
I’m still hanging out for a good reverb (easyverb is probably the best value for money, but I’m waiting to see if Kjaerhus do something).
Ambience is the pick of the bunch for free modelled reverbs (IMO), and I guess SIR is the only choice for convolution.
Away form the original topic, but just my 2c.
Cheers,
Johnny

I know, that's a lot for poor home recordists like me. Try it. It is worth it.

Kjaerhus has a whole bundle of freebies in their “Classic” series. As freebies, they are each about as good as anything out there. I like their clean, straightforward look and the well-named presets, which make excellent starting points. The Reverb is very competent. I’m also a big fan the Master Limiter; that will provide good loudness and evenness to your recordings (although it’s easy to overdo it). Since the classic series is free, download them all.

A couple of good free reverbs to check out are Glaceverb and Anwida Lite.

Anwida Reverb Lite
I would also recommend download the other VST effects from DigitalFishPhones beside BlockFish. Endorphin is an excellent mastering compressor. I really use that one a lot (maybe too much). Spitfish and Floorfish are worth having too.
Endorphin
have a look at the new Voxengo website www.the-air.com
pristine space light - uses less cpu than SIR, has a smaller GUI as well -
all plugins can be downloaded for test purposes -
there is at least 15 freebies there as well -

Hi Guys:
After a while, you’ll navagate to the plugins that you pay for… The Writers of these plugins need to be supported in some way for their R&D of this stuff. If you don’t, sooner-or-later they’ll drop out of the picture and they’ll stop development of their product…
The Kjaerhus Plug-ins are some of the finest plug-ins that are available, today… IMO… The GUI is setup to look like REAL rack mount equipment… I’ve used a lot of Other plugins but this stuff makes perfect vuisual sense, to me… However, it’s not what you use, it’s what you get used to useing… for plugins… I really like this compressor… And, it has presets that are pre-adjusted to work for the applications that are listed in the drop-down menue…
I plan to write him some mail, at least for now, and give him some morale support… If one-in-a hundred useds write these guys to tell them about useing their products, At least they know their hard work is not in vaiene… < spelling…lol… Well…
Again, what works for one doesn’t work for everyone…

Steffen, I use most of the comps listed here and agree with you in your use of the BuzCompFree bundle. They are very good. But do check out the Kjaerhus Plug-ins, they are equally as good. I use them in different situations, and as KSDB says, the Master Limiter in the series works very well.
Paris EQ - if you’re working in 48K, it’s one of the best out there. I know this is a compressor thread but since it drifted I thought I’d mention this.
Hi All:
Today, I ordered the Kjaerhus Golden Uni-Pressor… from the 'Goup Buy Plan". It set me back $64.75 CDN…
Now, I’m seriouslly looking at the Bundle that has the Input Strip and the Master Limiter… It’s Awful Rich, money-wise… But I took it for a test spin on a vocal track… I have to admit… It works…
I’m about to pass the bucket around… I’ll accept any “Coin Scraps” you you think you don’t need… “Ames-fo-tha-Pooa” I need $247.02 CDN… I don’t know just what the .02…is for…

That’s so the plugin writer can give his $0.02 in a forum somewhere…
