We were in killing time this afternoon, when a fellow in leather and long hair came to the counter with a guitar in hand (no case, looked like one of those B C Rich guitars or something gothic) and said, “I bought this guitar two weeks ago and it won’t stay in tune, and I think I also blew out the pickups, so I want my money back.”
Lol, how does one go about “blowing out a pickup”?
Must of been some bada$$ shredding guitar player huh?
.-=gp=-.
Are the clerks there trained to keep a straight face? The fellow behind the counter didn’t bat an eye.
Duh… Even my crappy bent-neck no-name arch-top stays in tune for ever… It’s all about putting the strings on nice and tight to start with. But then again, I’m preaching to the choir, yes?
Do you work at Guitar Center or did you just happen to be there? GC will allow you to return an item for up to 30 days (I think), so they guy didn’t need to make up some dumb execuse.

Preach on brother John!
Personally, I think LOCKING tuners are the shiznit. String changes are FAST and the suckers STAY in tune beautifully!
My Godin has 'em and I love them suckers!

Blow out the pick-ups? You actually connect a 130psi air hose to guitar instead of 1/4" guitar chord maybe?
Maybe he was thinking “Hey, this is an elelctric guitar. Hmmm.
Hey look ! Electric Wall outlet !”

$2000 Martin. I have a funny story about a $2000 Martin..... for another time.
Mike
I think the best high-end acoustics are Santa Cruz's. Anyone 2nd that?
I owned a '72 Martin D-28. It sounded OK but it developed the classic Martin boom, and it also developed other problems. Martin's quality really went down-hill in the early 70's because their production went from 2,000 to 20,000 guitars.

I've noticed that with my Martin when I try to record it mic'd instead of direct... My 20-year-old Yahamaha actually sounds better than the Martin when mic'd.

It is true Mike that the Martin quality declined for the years through the 70's and early 80's. I believe that it had to do with the people running the business at that time.
Since Chris Martin took over the business their quality improved and the quality has become much more consistant from instrument to instrument.
I agree with the Martin boominess. This is the main reason not to buy a new guitar with a heavy bottom end. As the top starts to "open up", the bass becomes more pronounced. So a guitar that has a good, full bottom end when new will often have a boomy/mushy bottom end after a few years of playing. If you like a more balance Martin tone, check out the 0000 series guitars.
Santa Cruz guitars are very, very nice and very pricy. If we are talking moderately expensive acoustics, I love the sound of Collins guitars. I saw a 00 size once that sounded like angels singing.

Mike
PS.
That is my wife's 000 Martin I'm playing repetitively in the picture.
Spertzals for ever, man.
Love my floyd too.
Martin’s do sound nice when brand new, but Doc Guitar is correct. Ifn ya wants to play bluegrass tho, they love that boomy can’t hear what yer playing sound. I live in bluegrasss ####.

Gee Yaz... I didn't realize we were NEIGHBORS.

ROFL!
Don't get me wrong, there are some amazing musicians in the Bluegrass world and I like to hear them tear it up. However, my dad is a Bluegrass-aholic. When I worked with him as a young chap, I ran FOH sound for about 68 million bluegrass festivals. After you've heard the first band at a festival, chances are the rest will be just as bad or worse. These people really put a lot of work and passion into their groups but honestly..... most of 'em are AWFUL!!
(Sorry dad!)

If I had a million dollars- BNL song–first thing i would buy—collings 000 series with a cutaway!
Then a Santa Cruz dreadnaught!!!—Traditional series. With the old school-pre war headstock…
gotta clean off the keyboard~!
If you don’t know about these guitars, please go play one!
PB:D
TG, there is only so much you can play in G, C, and D. You can only play it faster than the last guy. Now I like listening to Jerry Douglass, and maybe a few other bluegrass pickers, but the local bands (Yaz rolling eyes several times) Suck! Jam with some of these cats and throw a Amaj7th at 'em and watch 'em freak!
