This is related to digital recording…
Custom DAWs.
I decided to offer only 2 desktops - one Intel & one AMD dual core. I’m only going to build high-end machines now - to heck with the low end stuff. People can buy that from Dell.
Technical question for ya Mike,
I have noticed alot of wireless microphone systems getting cheaper and cheaper.
Also I noticed wireless internet becoming more common.
I own wireless routers, and a few network adapters.
What i’m wonering is how close technology is to being able to send music data from one place to another, and record it remotely.
That is, also what type of equiptment would be nessesary to even attempt such an idea?
Let me illaborate.
I do a concert, and there are say four intruments and two vocals, for a total of 6 tracks possible 8 with two extras for the drums.
So what would it take to send 8 tracks through the air say 1/2 mile( I live very near to gigs) and record them remotely on a home PC?
It seems like all the peices are coming together for this type of idea, just don’t know what parts and what kind of quality the signals would have.
Oh and, is this concept something I should be patenting? lol

Jerm - this is an area that I have no knowledge in. However, I don’t think WiFi is there enough to meet your requirements (1/2 mile). Does anyone else know?
Why don’t you just bring your DAW to your gigs & record. That’s what I do.

Yeah, I guess your right,
Heck they can't even get a voice signal to go through a cell phone a half mile without cracklin'!
I could see me on stage, can you hear me now?...
CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW!....

Eyup!
Useless fact: The world record (so far) for a wireless network connection is over 60 kilometres.
That’s using standard wireless access points, but some purty fancy antennas, oh, and one end of the link was on top of a mountain in Slovakia
I have a link here with a mate of mine over about a mile, using Netgear ME102 access points and a 10 element home made yagi at each end. The link runs at the full 11 megabits.
Anyhoo, seeing as how you would have to have a pc at the gig anyway to digitise the audio and send it over the network, you might just as well record it there
If you’re bored, just Google “Pringles Cantenna” and see what ludicrous stuff some geeks get up to.
Not me of course
Steve
Be careful you don’t fall foul of the FCC there Jeremy.
I know narrow-beam point-to-point radio transmission isn’t strictly speaking Broadcasting, and in-house setups are ignored unless they interfere with others.
But beaming half a mile might be a different story, especially if your beam isn’t as tight as you might hope it was, so check with an attorney as well as with a radio engineer.
Because if you are judged to be ‘broadcasting’ and you have a wardrobe malfunction (the door falls off or something ), you’ll be in deep doo-doo.

Um yeah I was thinking more along the lines of wireless mic, PA, transmission to remote PC recorder.
So there would be no other computer involved.
Perhaps a short distance microwave transmission device, but not another computer.

They already have two way cell phone devices that act kinda like walky talkies, but the sound quality is pretty shabby!

And then there’s satelite radio? hmmmm seems to be able to transmit music files over long distances with digital quality, now to apply at the FCC for my own frequency…
I will definitly check out those nerds and see if they have any devices that fit the profile.
Sorry to jack the thread Mike, but you know what they say,
Any publicity is good publicity. Worked for Bush! lol
