General opinions about N

off-topic somewhat: It’s incredible that nobody’s girlfriend thinks N-Track is waste of time. Mine certainly does! ???

Who says? :p :;):

Good job, Sticknick! I would love that. My wife’s a musician, but she’s not into it at quite that level. But even though she hates the PC a bit worse than I do, she’s my champion. And so is my reggae band, who’s horn arrangement I just lost…

Since n-track already has far more features than I am ever likely to use, I voted for greater stability. However, it is worth noting that this isn’t just a problem for n, or even the less well known software in general.

Our sound engineer is recording and mixing the band’s new album in Cubase. Personally, having cut my DAW teeth on n-track, I find it clunky, unresponsive and massively non-intuitive but since it IS him that is doing all the work I can’t complain too much.

Anyhoo, this past Saturday, after an hour spent working on a drum mix Cubase just disappeared … no error message, no freeze up, no blue screen, just … nothing.

Leaving aside the wisdom of saving your work regularly (which he now subscribes whole-heartedly to), for me it was just a reminder that whilst n certainly does have issues as far as stability goes (although I have never had a particular problem with it), it is most definitely not unique in that regard.

Cheers,

Well said!!!!!!!!!

Echo your sentiments 100%

Just to attempt to bring a little balance to the stability issue (and I’m not saying it’s not important), we are somewhat in a minority here in the grand scheme of n-trackers.

There are thousands of n-trackers around the globle but only those with problems come here to seek help for their stability problems (oh, and those of us who like to hang here too) so I think we may get a distorted view.

Also, I work in the IT industry and I see a vast array of skills in the subject… people who know what they are doing, folks who have now idea, and those who think they know what they are doing… I was in the cinema earlier today and a poor chap there with the entire family had to leave because his tickets were for tomorrow and the “real” seat holders had arrived. The guy swore blind that he’s booked for the correct day but… maybe it was a bug in the system or maybe a false click.

Anyway, I’ve had a few problems with n-track over the last 5 or 6 years, but generally once stable, it’s pretty stable. Don’t fiddle, don’t tweak, and if things do start behaving strangely, undo the last thing you changed and try again.

Thanks Mark:
That’s well put…

I feel quite fortunate, knowing that this Forum/Board is here, with so many clever people posting their expirences regarding their DAWs and how they work for them… As I read the topics I gather a bit here and a bit there and if I have an issue, I post IT here… In a couple of days IT all comes together, and works…

If I think I have a resolve to someone’s issue I will post what I think I know, in hopes that someone else will correct me and I’ll learn from that expirence, as well…

It’s just a good place to lurk-and-learn about all this DAW Stuff…

That’s what I think…
