Where’s your studio thread?
I’m eager to take a look at what you did and how…where’s the thread gone??
Hi spreadercraig:
It’s been a long time sense I was in there last…
However, last Saturday, I got in there to look at a Yamaha Bass Sampling Box…
I don’t know the model # of it…
It was broken and beyond my capability to fix it or to get the DSP to create any sounds…
It looked promising… BUT That’s all…
Anyway, the weather is warming up and I’m looking forward to spending some time in there as the weather permits…
I hope this is what you might be looking for…
The thread should come up with “THIS LINK”
and the photo blog should come up with “THIS LINK”…
Then Scroll down the thumbnails till you see “STUDIO UNDER CONSTRUCTION”…
Gentlemen…
I am about to prototype the Guitar/Bass Amp that I have spent 20 - 25 years of my days thinking-and-dreaming, about…
I am presently drafting the circuit design and writing the “Concept and Specification” requirement paper…
The first Breadboard/Concept is almost ready to go into production…
We’ll See…

Go, Bill. I look forward to seeing and hopefuly hearing it. D'you have any sketches? Head and cab or combo? Spec'? Cloth cover?
Thanks Bill!!

ditto
Bill, are you using op-amp vacuum tubes? discrete IC? solid state?
speakers? single 12" or twin 8's? (I'm sorry we are now talking about my ultimate bass rig)...let's hear about yours...

Back Again:
We (Bob-and-I) should have something to draft up in a Paper this weekend…
I just got off the phone with him…
Last weekend he was off with the Stampeders, doing three live One-nighters in New Brunswick and Northern Nova Scotia…
The amp needs to be easy to carry…
(not too heavy)
you know…
and it should be easy to use… If it could come in at 45-50 lbs, that would be great…
If it meets those requirements, that’s a good sign…
Of course, it’s gotta sound right…
Otherwise, it’s just gonna sit in the closet…
We’re thinking it’s gonna be a “Combo Amp” for studio use with a pair of 12’s… Then, with a 2x12" extension cabinet for the amp to sit on for stage applications… It should look like a “Wide Faced” '59
Bassman Tweed looking Cabinet appearance.
This is all subject to change…
All Early Chatter…
You Know…
It’s gonna have two independent Duet 6L6
Amps to drive the 2x12 or 4x12 speakers…
Depending on how it’s setup to use…
Just the early concept design(s)…

Yeah

Back to Report:
The weather turned ugly over the weekend…
We didn’t get to write any Draft Papers… However, we chin wagged about what features this amp should have and the quality of the speakers and appearance of the cabinet-and-all…
Some of the ideas we tossed around AND One factor is, this amp has to be able to be carried…
It ain’t gonna work if this amp comes in at more than 50 lbs. and no bigger than a TWIN Amp…
We both seem to like a Lacquered Tweed type cabinet ?..
Anyway, we’ll post a Designer’s Concept Paper As-it-Goes… I’d like to draw up a Block Diagram of the Amp’s Circuit to show some idea of the signal flow/path before the Bread-boarding begins…
At this stage of development the design is wide open to the concept and ideas of what this amp should look like along with it’s expectations and performance… I’d like to see a Designer’s Concept Paper get written up, soon…
AnYWaY…
I’m like a kid with a chocolate bar…
I think it’s all over my face…

Hi Bubbagump:
In my humble opinion and experience Bass and Kick Drum tracks are possiblly two of the hardest tracks to capture-and-mix in the recording studio..
Without the "correct" Bottom-end for the recording the song's true Audio "Picture" is tough to portray..
The Bottom end is the toughest frequencies to correctly, acoustically phase..
The Bottom end also requires the most dynamic energy and the most analogue-and-digital resources the capture-and-display..
Without the correct Bottom-end, the rest of the song's tracks mean nothing..
Listen at any of the songs in your collection that you like the most and you'll discover that the "Bottom-end" of those songs are the nicest sounding and occupy the least of your attention while you listen at the rest of the song..
To my mind it just doesn't matter technically how the "Bottom-end" is tracked-and-mixed, as long as the "Bottom-end" carries the rest of the tracks and doesn't get In-the-Way.. A good Track Man and Mixer Man spends much of his time discovering-and-learning how to make the "Bottom-end" sound, Just Right..
Of course, AND Again..
That's just my opinion..

I always worry if it's more than four hours. Wait, that was something else...never mind.
