I had a nice story I was gonna post to this thread…
It must have been a lie…
Somehow it got lost before it got posted.
Bill…
p.s.
Bottom End is all about moving Air…
That motor looks like a servo motor…
to me…
So…
The amplifier that runs this thing must be a servo amp…
needa a poweramp that will run at full output at 1hx - there is a seperate motor control unit - apart from the ASTRONOMIC COST and that it has to be fitted in an attic or basement its a great idea -
DR J
The question becomes - “How high will you go for lows?”
This is the first home audio woofer delivering true response to DC.
Now, wait a minute - at DC nothing is moving. They must mean DC + a small amount?
Add some heating elements and you have a very expensive hair dryer.
You can see and understand the technology here. (Short of the comment Tom posted. Yes at DC nothing “moves”.) I don’t think I’d buy any stock in their company… I will send a link to my “more money than sense” friends who all have their 5.1 “surround” speaker systems in a pile next to their big screen TV’s though.
D = cynic skeptic…
How’s that gonna fit in a Civic??
How's that gonna fit in a Civic??
N-yuck, n-yuck, n-yuck...
D

by bolting the fan on top of the civic you could save loads on petrol by feeding a signal generator through a (very high power) audio system and obtain sonic propulsion -
Dr J
Not a bad idea Doc. That would certainly ease this fellows work load a bit…
D
Actully, if any of you know someone who is an extreme audiophile, you know the market for this is pretty substantial. I’d bet the company does well.
You may be right Tom. There are lots of nut cases with wads of cash in their pockets who might want to turn their house into a 2000 sq/ft sub woofer.
I’ve been thinking about this subject again. (Run, hide! D has been thinking again!) What good is a device to generate frequencies below what we can hear anyway? Most of the stuff I have read says “Well, you can feel lower frequencies and that may add to the musical listening experience.” I personally find it nauseating. I don’t even care for conventional sub-woofers in most cases because they are usually setup and used improperly.
Meh… whatever… I’m just not a D&B kind of guy I guess. To each his own I suppose!
D
Holy Moly!
If I had that kinda cash I would be buying gear! And I don’t mean a sub woofer!
Sorry, but I’ve got you beat!
This sub described in the link below is the one I want!
"Astronomers say they have heard the sound of a black hole singing. And what it is singing, and perhaps has been singing for more than two billion years, they say, is B flat – a B flat 57 octaves lower than middle C.
The black hole is playing ‘‘the lowest note in the universe,’’ said Dr. Andrew Fabian, an X-ray astronomer at the Institute for Astronomy at Cambridge University in England. "

Hmmm - I’m far from a scientist BUT! How does sound escape a blackhole when by it’s very name not even light can??
Just a country boy tryin’ to figure.
Hmmm - I'm far from a scientist
you could always move home?
How does sound escape a blackhole when by it's very name not even light can??
Quoting from the article..........
"Black holes, as decreed by Einstein's general theory of relativity, are objects so dense that neither light nor anything else, including sound, can escape them. But long before any sort of material disappeared into a black hole, theorists have surmised, it would be accelerated to near-light speeds by the hole's gravitational field and heated to millions of degrees as it swirled in a dense doughnut around the gates of doom, sparking X-rays and shock waves and squeezing jets of energy and particles across space."

Anyway, that particular Black Hole only does Bb apparently; so we need to find 11 others to get a really kick-ass VSTi!
(Go on Tim, tell us that Reaper already has one!)

Now that’s just flat out funny!
Reaper has a “Black Hole” ?
Bb, hmmm well it would work on the Stones “Jumping Jack Flash” I suppose.
(Go on Tim, tell us that Reaper already has one!)
Download the program and check it for yourself?

It does have a built-in sampler so you could sample this -57 octave Bb beast and play it back... I can see it now...
*fantasy sequence*
Mick, Keef and the boys storm the stage and bust into Jumpin' Jack Flash using a sample of this thing.
POOF!! GOOooonnee... (Except for Keef, alcohol molecules are probably light enough most of him would still be there.)
