how to use multiple midi banks

ok, i loaded another sf in bank 1 on my sb audigy, in addition to the one on 0. however, i can’t seem to find something in properties to change to this bank, despite messing around with everything in there(bank, etc).

how do i choose bank 1?

There’s lots of stuff with properties. Which properties are you looking in?

Track properties is where the bank select is. There are different types of bank selects to choose from, so if “Normal” does work just give the others a try.

But, MIDI bank select is handled through the CC#0 and CC#32 controller events followed by the patch change. Events in the MIDI track will override track properties.

well, in soundfont bank manager, you can add it from 1-127 banks.

once i add it to any of those, how do i tell that track to use that bank?

There’s synth A, and there’s synth B, and both are listed in your Midi devices.

So, load what you want into each of them, then use it.

If you want to use multiple banks within a particular synth, RTFM.

As I said, in the track properties. Once you have your synth setup the MIDI tracks needs to send out the patch and bank to pull it up.

I actually tried selecting the different banks in there, and that didn’t work, that’s why I posted.

sceptic, “RTFM” usually is taken as insulting and as an implication that the person did not bother looking, or is too lazy to do so. I tried this dialogue, it didn’t work, that’s why I posted.

None of your posts let us know that you had tried the track properties and that it didn’t work. RTFM is also used among friends as a friendly jab, especially those with a common bond.

Why don’t you tell us what you have tried and what parts did and didn’t work? We are working off of many assumptions. Is there a sample MIDI file we can try?

ok, sorry, I just am used to it being less than friendly.

I loaded two soundfonts into synth b, one in bank 1, one in bank 2. I tried the “bank” dialogue, switching it to the bank where the second one was, and nothing.

What program changes did you try? What patch change is that sound assigned to in the synth/bank? Are there any overriding CC or patch events in the MIDI track? Are you sure you are playing to the MIDI device that has the soundfont loaded?

I no longer have SFonts setup so I can’t walk through anything (haven’t in years actually). Maybe someone else that is currently using them with an Audigy can help further.

dcougle, take it as you wish, it bothers me not at all.

However, it was not intended to be insulting.

I have checked the help file and “The Music Creation Guide” that came with my Audigy, and details on how to load separate banks into the synths is detailed in both of them.

But, mayhap you have a different version of the soundcard, and consequently different documentation.

Did you use the creative Sf bank manager to load the banks, or are you trying to do it through n-track?

Do the different banks appear correctly within the creative software? And is the problem you are having n-track specific?

Ali

i know how to load the different soundbanks in audigy, that was never the issue. the issue was, despite doing this, changing the banks in n-track to anything but the default under “banks” didn’t seem to work.

Once you have the soundfonts loaded properly then the bank select methods we’ve suggested will work, assuming nothing else is causing problems. Out questions are an attempt at ruling out the unknown stuff.

Do you have a sample MIDI file that doesn’t work? Can we see the soundfont? What patch change are you sending to call up the sound. Just a bank select isn’t enough. Does the MIDI file have any other controllers in it? Those can override the settings in the track properties. Does it play silently or with the wrong sound?

ok, tell me if i am doing this right. in creative soundfont manager, i set bank 000 to the stein piano soundfont. i set bank 001 to the strings soundfont I want.

then, for the properties for the piano track, should i leave bank to default(none), and set it to bank 1 for the next track, for 001, for strings?

is there anything else I should have changed, cuz that’s not doing it:O I even tried changing “bank” to 0-3. It keeps just only playing the piano, on 000, for both tracks.

some of the settings i try changing like bank sel, give me a piano that is not even the same one I am using(like a GM piano or something).

ok, so I apparently cannot get it working using different banks, so I was able to use the same bank, and different channels. Thanks for the help!:)
