So recently the Audiobus app has developed some stability issues and because of that I wonder if n-Track Pro could remind me how to correctly send either audio or midi messages to a track. For example when I try to connect Lumbeats Funk Drummer as an IAA instrument, I get a consistently blank track, even though the drum app appears to be synchronizing with N-Track tempo… No problem with AUv3 apps, only IAA.?
Hi @Heimie,
Could you clarify what you mean by “consistently blank track”? Are you referring to missing MIDI input, no audio output, or something else?
You should be able to add an IAA instrument track and use it similarly to an AUv3 instrument. In the Instrument Browser, under External Instruments > InterApp, you’ll find a list of all the IAA instruments installed on your device. Simply select and add the one you want to use.
Like with AUv3 instruments, you can choose to keep the MIDI track separate from the instrument track by enabling the “Add as instrument bus” option. This can be particularly useful - for example - for multi-output plugins. You can send MIDI events either from the Piano Roll, by playing the on-screen keyboard, or using an external controller.
Could you also clarify what you mean by “sending audio”? Are you asking about routing the audio output from an IAA instrument into an audio track in n-Track? Let me know, and I’ll be happy to help!
Thanks!
Yes, I am referring to routing an audio track from an IAA instrument to an audio track in n-Track without using Audiobus.
As you know, just like with AUv3 plugins, an IAA instrument track actually contains two tracks in one: a MIDI track and an associated audio output channel. This means the output of the IAA instrument is already routed to its corresponding audio output within the instrument track.
However, if you’d like to route the instrument track’s output to another audio track for any reason, you can do so by creating a new audio track, then opening the mixer and tapping on the output (which typically says “Speaker” or the name of your output device). From there, select the newly created audio track as the destination. You can check out this quick video for a demonstration.
Additionally, in the mixer, you can add a send to route the output in parallel to a Group, Aux, or any other audio track.
Let me know if this answers your question!
