It Was

Bound to Happen

Hi Gents:

Today I ended up at a Buy-and-Sell Shop down in Center…
I was downtown, on the quest for some wire…
Anyway, the Buy-and-Sell Shop needed my attention, so…
In - I - Went…
???
:)

The first thing I saw was a Hosa
<<
spelling…
20’ 1/4" to RCA 8-channel snake…
In perfect condition, I might add…
Never Used…
I couldn’t turn it down…
$15.00 and, it was mine…
:)

I didn’t even get out the door and what did I see ????

Not One, Not Two, but Three E/V 635A mics…
I’d have to say, they were never used, maybe, once-or-twice…
However, one has the tell-tale sign of being dropped…
Now…
we all know that these mics are tougher than rocks…
BUT…
they haven’t been tried out, yet…
I’m prepared to offer $140.00 for the lot…
If that’s acceptable, to the shop owner, I may have them for $151.00 loonies…

Gents…
Is that a good price for them ????

Oh Yes…
As well, there is an APEX dual fantom Power Supply there…
He wants 49.95 for it…
I don’t remember the model number…
However, it looks to be brand new…
Never used…
I’m gonna check to see if I can find the new price for whatever model APEX Supply, it is…
I think $50.00 is kinda steep for it…

Anyway…

Bill…

Nicely, Bill. Why do I never find shops like that?

Hi Tony R:

The real places for toys like this are over where Tom lives or I’ve been to Florida on what they call the Orange Blossom Trail…
OR…
Hwy 441 ??
OR…
is it 414…
Anyway, it’s the old main highway running North/South through Orlando…
You have to be there on the Orange Blossom Trail on Saturdays and Sundays…
However, it goes 7-Days a Week…
Yard Sales… Flea Markets…
You name them…
You’ll quickly learn what’s on the tables from week-to-week…
Then, you over look the non-selling stuff, while you quickly focus on the new stuff…

The new/young kids are not gonna know what these mics are…
However, I don’t want to loose the chance of not getting these mics…
However, if I look too eager, I may toss my bargaining leverage, out-the-door…
They also have a few powered bass bins…
I’d really like to have one for the the Tannoy Boxes that I have on the DJ Desk…

This afternoon I checked out the 8-track snake with the TEAC MX-80 mixer on the STA/Hoontech 8-Track audio with the old P-4 computer, with n-Track, latest build, on the DJ Desk… I’m really surprised…
Works like a charm…
Well, so-far-so-good…

I thought I committed an accident when I patched it all together, this afternoon…
I saw some smoke commin outta the MX-80 Mixer…
Must have been smoke signals…
:)
:p
Tellin me to be careful…
Anyway, it looks like it’s gonna work…
O.K.

I’d like to build a Fantom Power Supply for this setup, or, get something setup to power mics that need power supplies…
We’ll see…

Bill…

Wow, what a haul. 15 loonies for that snake? Wow. 150 for those three mics? Man, I woulda done it in a second… :agree: :agree: :agree: :agree: :agree:

Hi TomS:

There’s a powered bass bin there that I’d like to add to the DJ Desk monitor setup…
As well, in the wire pile in the corner is a bunch of 25-and-35 ft. mic cables…
They want 20 bucks a piece for them…
You know, after you buy the wire and XLR ends you can’t build them cheaper than that…
I’d be a fool to not take them…
Back to the powered bass bins to choose from… They range from some 650.00 down to one that would suit me for about 60.00…
The hi-end one is a Klipch << spelling Bin… Looks interesting… but pretty pricey. The 60.00 one needs some work…
It has a few hundred thousand miles on it…
However… ????
If it works
Well…

I think, I have to go back and give them an offer on the toys…

:)
:p

Bill…

Hi TomS and All:

I went back to have a second look at those mics and the Fantom Supply…

I still haven’t sprung for that stuff, yet…
The mics work and the Apex Supply looks like it has never been used…

It’s just a Matter-of-Principal…
I think they seen me coming… I sure don’t make a Good Poker Player…
It’s written all over my face…
They don’t have any Bartering Manners…
:)
:p
AND…
It Ain’t Funny…
I don’t think the deal can be faulted…
It’s just that they’re lookin for .60 CeNtS on the loonie…
In this Day-and-Age…
with the economy, the way it is, and all…
Don’t get me goin…

Sorry. Every body’s gotta make a livin…
:p
I can’t find a retail price on that Apex Dual Fantom Supply…
They want 49.95 for it…
Two E/V 635A’s at 59.95 and one at 49.95
NO Budge…
on the price…
15% Govment TAX…

$195.33
That’s my best rithmatic on the deal…

Anyway, I think it’s not a bad deal…

Bill…

[EDIT] And no clips and wires, either…

Apex single phantom power supply goes for about 30 USA dollars.

Hi Again TomS:

Thanks for the reply…
I went looking for this Apex Dual Phantom Supply that I saw at this Buy/Sell Shop… I couldn’t find the exact one on line…
I believe this one at the Buy/Sell Shop is an older version that Apex sold…
It don’t quite matter, as long as it works and does the deed…
The model that they market now is called “APP22”…
I couldn’t find a price anywhere…
I called a local music shop and discovered it retails for about $90.00
Anyway, if this one works and I would presume it does, is about
.50 cents on the dollar…
I used to have a Peavey FOUR Mic supply…
However, I parted with it…
sigh…
some time ago…

Oh yes…
I see a single mic supply that Apex sells…
It’s called a Model APP2…
That must be the $30.00 model…

You see…
The standard Phantom Supply voltage used to be 48 volts… However, in this age there appears to be several standard voltage supplies…
The break points are LO Voltage at some 12-18 volts and Hi Voltage at 48-53 volts…

The Neumans type mics will HUM if they are powered with anything less than 44 volts…
While some of these new design mics will burn up/fail with anything more than 22 volts…

Bill…

E/V 635A mics and Apex Fantom Power Supply Update…

I sprung for the 635A Mics and Power supply…
I posted the photos of them on the Studio Photos Blog Site…
I found I was unable to deal with/for the purchase myself… SO… I got a third party to make the deal…
The deal struck for 210.00 loonies…
taxes-in…
The receipt shows the power supply was 39.13
and the mics listed at 47.83 each…
The invoice totaled at $210.01
The only things missing are the mic clips and the cables and power cord for the power supply…
I’d like to get some foam pop filters for the mics…
We’ll see…

Bill…

Cool!
