Jackson DKMG

any one likey?

HEy guys,

I know some of the ladies on here use Jackson’s and was just wondering if anyone cares to share their opinions on here of this guitar.

I’m looking at a Japan made one with the seymour duncan and the Floyd Rose, alder body maple neck on it for $300 with a Jackson Case shipped.

I lent my Ibanez to my little brother a year or two ago and at this point one could say I gave it to him and I really need to get another guitar to kinda fill that niche for the edgier rhythms mostly and some amateur pseudo-shredding.

I have other guitars with active EMG’s in them so I actually was looking for another humbucker shredder type model to cover things that require that type of grit.

Anywho, it would be great to hear from Jackson users that might be familiar with this model and if anyone could give a comparison to say an Ibanez 1570 Prestige (with the wizard necks) since that is the guitar I am now replacing.

If it feels right and it stays in tune and it sounds like you when you play it…
isn’t that all that matters…
???
:p
:)
As long as it’s not too heavy, and it’s balanced with the strap in the playing position…
(Not neck heavy or body heavy)…

I can’t play a guitar…
hehehe…

Bill…

It wouldn’t be for me but if you like it then go for it.

I really don’t like playing guitars with Floyd Rose whammy bars. My palm muting pushes the bridge, and I tend to do lots of double stops with one string bent… which puts the other string out of tune as the bridge moves under the tension change. Nah, not for me, but you enjoy. : -)

yeah, I was kinda worried about that myself,

I used to have a Warlock (BC rich) if anyone remembers those back in the day with the Floyd and that's exactly what I remember about it was it drifting out of tune much in the same way you are describing.

They also make this model with hardtail and string through bridges, so maybe that would be a better fit.

Anyway certainly some food for thought.

Eruuup!

that seems to be the problem with muting and the bridges/tuning.
I'm going to doing a lot of muting on this next puppy and then going straight to lead, so this could be problematic.

From what I know tho, these guitars (called Dinky's) are 7/8 size (24 fret) and are relatively light.
I know my Prestige was light feeling, so much so it felt like a toy, and then there is the whole body resonance thing that is lacking on lighter what feel like hollow guitars.....you play a note and it just dies off....(Active EMG's anyone? lol)

That sounds like a setup issue to me. About the worst thing you can do for sustain is a bad neck relief and too low of an action.

could be, that was one old guitar.

but what I'm talking about is just the difference different bodies make to the depth length of the notes, (more noticeable when it is not plugged in)

For instance my Les Paul is heavy and when I play a note around the 12th fret it last almost 10 sec before it dies out, the Ibanez I was lucky to get 5 secs.

I'm hoping it's not set up issues as I have been taking all my guitars to the same shop for almost a decade now (I don't "do" strings well) and they always do a fine job by my standards (when the owner does it and they know I don't want any interns or newbs touching my babies) still he goes on vacation from time to time....then Again I do have a tendency to ask for the lowest action (accept on the Strat my Dad plays that mostly and he likes it a bit higher for pull offs).

Thanx bubba some food for thought, I am going to talk to my guy about that and see if I have anything to gain by maybe raising some of the actions a tad.

how about this baby?

Jackson Solo

hardtail, emg,

I have not been fond of any of Jacksons neck profiles I have played. Very round. I happen to like wide, flat, thinner, necks, 2.22" round the 22nd fret and a 14" radius. Carvin, Gibson Traditional Series, some of the Ibanez’ez, a few of the Schecters.

Lots of people in my neck of the woods likes 'em. Seems to be good quality for a mid to upper mid priced guitar.

yeah I have a Schecter 12 string, and I might even get the Ibanez Prestige back one day, this is sort of a mean time activity.

I know what you mean by neck profiles, the first time I picked up the 70’s Strat I got for my pops, awkward, for me anyway, I was under the impression however that the necks on these models are closer to the Wizards necks of the 80’s which I thought were lower profile thinner wider…?

Not saying that is the case for all Jacksons, but the two models I am considering, unless musicians friend mis-informs.

I got to get to the bottom of this (my local store does not have the Soloist or the DKMG right now to go look at) before I buy.
