Keyloggers

Down with um!

Keystroke logging (often called keylogging) is the practice of noting (or logging) the keys struck on a keyboard, typically in a covert manner so that the person using the keyboard is unaware that their actions are being monitored. There are numerous keylogging methods, ranging from hardware- and software-based to electromagnetic and acoustic analysis.
Software based keyloggers; designed to work on a target computer.
Remote access software keyloggers; These are local software keyloggers programmed with an added feature to transmit recorded data out of the target computer and make the data available to a monitor at a remote location. Remote communication is facilitated by one of four methods:
Data is uploaded to a website, database or an FTP account.
Data is periodically emailed to a pre-defined email address.
Data is wirelessly transmitted by means of an attached hardware system.
It allows the monitor to log into the local machine via the internet or ethernet and access the logs stored on the target machine.
Hardware-based keyloggers Hardware-based keyloggers do not depend upon any software being installed as they exist at a hardware level in a computer system.
Wireless keyboard sniffers
These passive sniffers collect packets of data being transferred from a wireless keyboard and its receiver. As encryption may be used to secure the wireless communications between the two devices, this may need to be cracked beforehand if the transmissions are to be read.
Cracking Writing software applications for keylogging is trivial,[citation needed] and like any nefarious computer program, can be distributed as a trojan horse or as part of a virus. What is not trivial for an attacker however, is installing a covert keystroke logger without getting caught and downloading data that has been logged without being traced. An attacker that manually connects to a host machine to download logged keystrokes risks being traced. A trojan that sends keylogged data to a fixed e-mail address or IP address risks exposing the attacker.
There are a bunch more but I think this much alone gives ya a pretty good idea of what is going on.

Look at the boasting these people do. SomeProblemCausers
Joseph McCarthy would have been proud.

You can’t see this stuff, it doesn’t show up in the registry, bypasses any firewall and computer security system and is inviable to antivirus tools.

I don’t have a problem with law enforcement agencys using this,
thinking the FBI probably developed it, especially if you don’t have anything to hide.
It’s the everyday day guy using it that worries me, like the guy that just went after David Letterman.
Spying on wives and neighbors is a little much.
Even your kids.
I would ask; how is a kid supposed to trust you when you don’t trust them?
And then crooks, you know they’ve got to love this stuff!
So we can’t exactly read each others minds but we can see whats on them

Some companies use it for several reasons, the main one being to watch what
their employees are doing, and how much work they do(keystroke counting for example).

Thinking they busted Dubious that way

No way… they’ll never bust me. I’m slicker 'n snot on a doorknob!
