Along with the problem I described in my previous post I’m also having a problem with the installation. Once I’ve installed the software it loads properly but after my PC has been rebooted when I try to start N-Track it reports
The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource and I’m invited to point to a different location. The path in the browse window appears to be a network path c:\docu………. This makes no sense and the only way to fix it is to reinstall every time I reboot my PC.
The file its looking for is ntrck0setup.msi
I’m not a total PC idiot and I know what a network share is. There are no shared resources on my home network. This makes no sense.
This is frustrating. I’m beginning to think I wasted my money.
Please Help.
Thanks

What version of n-track?
Previously n-track has been known to detect corrupt installations and try to re-install itself. I can’t remember exactly but I think that there were issues with some files in the temp folder and the .msi file you mention sounds familiar.
The error regarding network resources sounds like the typical Windows error when it can’t find a file it’s been told to look for. The partial path you give in your message, “C:\docu”, is the first few letters of where the temp folder usually is.
Do you have any “clean up” software running at boot time that may be clearing folders/registry settings etc?

You didn’t waste your money. It just takes some time to try to figure out what the issues might be, especially when the culprit PC is not in front of you…
Its been a while since I installed NTrack. When you do the install do you “open” the file or “save” the file? Maybe “save” it then install it from your local drive.
Who knows? Like I said…When the PC isn’t in front of you or your own, its hard to tell. With the problem you were (are) having with your audio card and this problem, it just seems that your PC is trying to get something (sound/folder) from somewhere. So, if it is a net PC, it may be doing something you are unaware of…
I’m sure others from here will probably be able to help you a little more…just hang in there.

I use 3.3
I think it’s looking to the setup file in your temp folder (it’s not a network share or path so that’s a mislabeling in the dialog, but it could be anywhere). I don’t know what will happen if that file is missing. If that setup file is in a temp folder and n-Tracks detected that it’s gone then there is a bug in the installation since it shouldn’t require any files in a temp folder to be present. ntrck0setup.msi is the temp setup file.
When n-tracks is installed it adds most setup files so that if they are missing or changed the setup will be retriggered to run and fix them but automatically forcing a reinstall.
I think the trick is to discover what file is getting removed, changed, or not being installed in the first place.
There may be a setup log somewhere that Flavio (or one of us) could look at and let you know what’s missing. I don’t know were that file is or if it exists though. It would be a nice addition if there isn’t one. That’s usually a setup option, but n-Tracks my not have it turned on.
Thanks for the suggestions. I originally installed a 4.x version for trial but when I purchased N-track I downloaded the most current build which I believe was dated 11/26/2006. I was seeing this problem in the 4.x version but thought I did a very complete uninstall including searching for and removing any ntr*.* files on my harddrive and running Norton System Works to clean up any old registry settings. Possible I missed something and it was attempting to repair an old install.
I’ve cleaned up again and I’ll double check everything again before I give it another try. I really want this to work. I’ve heard so much positive feedback.
Thanks everyone.
Another thing to check is to make sure that you’ve “full control” permissions for the folders that the install needs - especially whatever your temp folder is. If you log on as Administrator, this is probably the case, but it’s worth checking.

Phoo, I tried to repro this before posting my earlier answer as that was what I thought I remembered the problem to be. All was fine however with V5. n9ae did have a V4.x installed so I wonder if there is some hang over from that.

Could be. I just happen to see ntrck0setup.msi and ntrck1setup.msi in my temp folder. Deleting both didn’t cause problems with V4 or V5.
OK I figured this out. The ntrck0setup file is stored in c:\documents and settings<userid>\Local Settings\Temp. Unfortunately many system cleanup / tune up utilities such as Norton System Works will delete stuff from this temp directory. This is probably not a very good place to store permanent setup information.
I can work around this by doing a custom cleanup and maybe I can move the setup file to a different location.
This is progress but I’m still getting this message. I am able to record a test so recording is actually functioning.
Any ideas?
