That does remind me of a question I had for everyone - downloads from the contest site. I will set for stream only for now? Some folks freely allow downloads - others don’t. So maybe let me know if you want your song available for download or not.
Have you investigated the copyright ramifications of accepting cover songs? Seems to me most contests of this sort don’t accept cover songs for fear of infringing copyright.
Yes I have Bill - It is the obligation of the creator to obtain a license from the publisher. I personally have NEVER received a reply from any publisher I have requested a cover license from. They probably end up in the corner along with the unsolicited material they get by the ton. That being said it’s still an evolving issue. Since we don’t plan on allowing downloads for our “Cover Songs” category I feel we’re in good standing. There is no rate for streaming that I’m aware of.

Then there’s always “fair use” issues. Even the U.S. Copyright Office is not clear on all this . "Fair Use"
I’m really not worried about it.
I don’t mind folks downloading my songs.
If the contest is decided by how many times someone listens to your song over the internet, allowing it to be downloaded might hurt your chances of winning.
For downloading (i don’t mind either, personally) maybe it would be good to not allow downloads from the contest site, but then each contestant can individually post their material on their own site and allow downloads as they see fit.
That was my plan, anyway.

So how many votes per person/member? I was involved with a song contest at famecast, and the voters had to be registered members. How is this contest to work? Will a person have to be a member of soundclick?
