I dunno, I think jdet is right to be critical of that recording.
It sounds to me like the background vocals at about 1:08 need a narrow, 1.13 db notch at 301 hz.
Without that, the whole song is spoiled for me.
I mean, if he’d just do the notch the song would kill, but, well, you know, it’s so unprofessional not to do that notch, I don’t what he’s thinking about, I’d even vote for the tune, except for that big wart of a problem in the background vox at that spot.
So I applaud his self-criticism.
Clearly that recording is an idealist aberration.
Perhaps we can support him in a 12 step program or something.
I told Poppa I wanted to put together an mp3 CD with all the tunes submitted, make a couple hundred copies, and sell it to cover the cost, maybe of more prizes next year. What d’y’all think?

guys help me out with this, currently there are 53 songs (just in originals), right, by my calculations that would take just over 3 hours to listen to the whole thing using an estimate of 3 and a half minutes for each song?

While I listen I wanted to say that JDET’s song doesn’t strike me like one where the appeal is in a great recording or perfect backup vocals or such. I heard the flaws too but the lure for me is that it’s real original, unique, got a power punch, a little weird in a good way. JDET, I get the feeling sometimes maybe you (maybe me too) were born in the wrong time and your tunes would have been a smash in the 60’s. This century’s just not b… hey this is a great tune coming up, one of Craig’s , gotta get the head phones back on - see ya!

or so thought the neighborhood canines.
so i eq’d it back in.
i did do a high pass above 2Hz to keep the windows from shaking and a hi cut above 30,000 kHz to stop the dogs from howling.
amazing what 4-part vox can do when singing things like French Augmented 6th chords (yeah, they’re in there.
just not well in tune).
no one has thrown away an education like I have.

You know, I thought I heard some aliasing artifacts up around 30K - what EQ were you using? You gotta watch it, most plugins just can't handle 30K hz without the aliasing, which is why I rely on an EQ I put together using old parts from a radio shack speak and spell, assembled in an old coffee can. I am sure you know how I did it, great minds and all that, but I don't want to say any more about it in case Poppa or one of them others around here steals the idea before I get it to market, so let's just keep this between our selves, eh?
