n-track/recording/music wiki?

Hey, they need a logo. We should get Andy on that. I’ll PM him

I’m signed up. Let’s see if we can’t get something started.

I’m tempted to add a Beginners section (under Advice). The Tutorials section seems to be all about certain products, but I think there should be a section for generic tutorials. I’m not WikiWise enough to know whether it’s simple to rename “Tutorials” to “ProductTutorials”.

oops, wrong forum – no Andy here, he uses a Mac. :O

OK, I got started, posted 3 tutorials.

It sure is easier to maintain a Wiki web than what I use now (html source & ftp).
I guess I should have set up a Wiki for myself to begin with!

Good idea, glad you brought it up. But now I have a new time sink. :(:) :( ???

OK, resurrecting this topic.

The wiki referred to is great, but, it’s not here!

So, I still think a Fasoft wiki would be better.

It’d be more “homey”, it’d be n-track specific, (but not exclusively), and with Flavio’s concurrence, it’d be there on the home page so that any newbies visiting the site would see it straight away.

Noted. I’ve got to look at a few things for the church website soon. If you folks want I’ll have a go at setting something up at the same time… but if anyone else wants to have a go, or to ask Flavio, that’s fine with me.

BTW, I notice that the audiowiki site seems to be getting advertisement URLs tacked onto the bottoms of pages. Fortunately, none of the ads appear on the page for some reason.

Audiowiki.com allows unregistered editing. Bad idea!

I agree Jeff. Although I’ve said that I don’t think a moderated wiki is a good idea, nonetheless, it should still be restricted to registered users with a real email address as per Fasoft.

Ok, that won’t stop idiots determined to crap it up, but it will hopefully discourage casual goons.

Check out Twiki… It is the wiki we use internally here at the office for project collabs and documentation. I have been quite happy with it. IT is a bit of a bear to get up and going thogh. Perhaps PBWiki woul dbe better. It is free, hosted, and free of ads.

FWIW, I suggested a FAQ page about a year ago… :(

Not helping the conversation. just wanted to say it for the record… :p

I’ve chucked up a wiki on my webspace. Give me a few hours to get the config sorted and a URL and you can have a play.

The good news is that it can be configured so that only registered users can edit.

We’ll have a play and then run it by Flavio.

Sorry for the delay. It’s sorted, more or less, apart from a DNS problem. Give the Internet a few more hours to catch up and I’ll post the URL.

n-Track Wiki

Enjoy!

Hi Mark:
Thank you for the post… I’ve been over to the Board/Forum… and took a tour, and all… I’ll try to have a better look after the morning run…

This looks great… Can it be called a Blogg Page? also? Well…

Bill…

Ok Mark, great. :)

I’m now in the process of writing a piece about to get solder out of one’s socks. :D

This is a fantastic contribution. Well done.

Hugh

Mark, great job so far. :)

But, I need your help here mate.

It’s now the early hours of the morning, and I’ve been writing a piece about levels and impedance matching.

I’ve browsed and used wiki’s, but not quite sure how to go about writing contributions.

As you know, the whole subject can get quite involved, so, do I do separate articles about Ohm’s law, Thevenin, etc., or just go for an idiot level overview and write the rest via links?

What is the strategy? An overall take on the subject with links providing detail, or an in depth article?

Ali.

Hi Ali_G:
That’s a fastenating post… I have discovered just the opposite. I have bookmarked to opening “Blank” page to write myself right into a corner. :p

But, I am unable to figure out how to view and or mark pages to Watch. I see how I can Watch pages but how do you view people’s posts-and-remarks?

I never did get the oppertunity to return to the page, today, with all the activity that has taken place, arounf these parts…

Well we’re all learning here I guess.

In terms of working out how to use it, I get we need a structure of articles etc, but for the time being let’s let it grow organically and see what happens.

Authoring articles isn’t that hard when you get used to it. For “help” click on the “powered by” icon in the bottom left hand corner. Generally with Wikis page are created when someone refers to them in a document. So if you want a page about, say Ohm’s law, just create a link to your new page and it will magically spring into existence.

I’d like to get a bit more involved but it’s 7.30am, I’m at work (yeah, whoohoo, love it), and I’m likely to be here all weekend. I’ll check back later and see if anything is happening.

Bill, I’m not sure you can post remarks and comments; that’s not quite how a Wiki works.

Incidently, you can get an RSS feed of the page changes. That will tell you everytime someone makes a change to a page. If you need to know more about RSS I’ll be back later. In the meantime perhaps someone else will help out.

Gotta go…

Ali,

Checkout a couple of edits I’ve made to the Main Page. I’ve added some sections. If you “edit” the main page you can see how I added the new pages.

To use images, you first have to upload them and then use the image tag in the editor. I don’t know a way to browse the images yet so remember the name of the image you just uploaded.

HTH
