n-track/recording/music wiki?

Hi Mark:
Thanks for your reply on the post I made.

I’ll keep on Browsing the page and see how it Progresses/Developes and then I’ll be able to see if there may be something I might be able to contribute…

I think it’s my understanding of a “WIKI”, that I need to work on…

I could see someone like Limey, or past Board contributors like him. could have a great time anound this type of inviroment…

Bill…

Thanks Mark. :)

I’m starting to re-write the article in a sort of “tree” structure, that way I can have a general overview with links to terms that need explaining.

I’m not sure if that’ll work or not, but, what the ####! If it doesn’t, then you’ll have to get a different wiki thingy! :D

PS: learjeff, Phoo, et al…I do hope you’re gonna copy all of your stuff onto here, and that includes all the majorly instructive posts. Get busy guys! :D

Guys, the “discussion” tab is where you can talk about the content and edits for a given page. It’s the “meta page”, as nerds like me might put it.

Mark, thanks for starting it. If it’s really for ntrack, I’d have used “ntrackwiki”, but no doubt some folks will get a chuckle out of “audioears”. :)

I added a link on our Help page to point to the Wikipedia help page, showing how to add and edit pages.

I suggest that instead of making this an “n-Track” audio Wiki, we make it more of an “n-Track-oriented home recording Wiki”.

In other words, most articles could be general-purpose, but using n-Track for specific examples, and with a good section on tips & tricks using n-Track. I find that more than half of the stuff we discuss here applies to any DAW-based recording.

I think it’s inevitable that it goes that way Jeff, but let’s keep the n-Track bias otherwise we just start competing with Audiominds and all those other recording sites out there.

Well at present it is, of course, just an experiment. Ultimately if Flavio wanted to host it then that would be great.

I’ve been meaning to register a “generic” domain name for my own uses for some time; I have plenty of specific ones for specific purposes. I was playing around with a domain name generator with words like “audio” and AudioEars came out. It made me smile and I figured our AudioMinds friends wouldn’t take offence.

Mark

No worries. As far as competing with all the other sites, this is the only Wiki other than audiowiki (which doesn’t seem to be going anywhere at all).

Anyway, I mucked around a bit – if you disagree with any changes I made just go ahead and make it however you want it.

That’s cool Jeff. I meant to post earlier and thankyou for your contribution… but this isn’t my wiki, it’s ours… so come on folks…

Perhaps a collaboration with Audio Minds? Not that they would have control or anything, but just another place to link and get the info out. Ifyou are out there Don, would you be hip? I am thinking like “The best of the Wiki” on AudioMinds to suppliment what is already there…

Cool, I got my land legs in there pretty quick. I added a few topics with really basic basic outlines. Off to the races we go.

I have put a quick page up with some pointers on how to create/edit things, but actually, as you’ve sussed, it’s not that hard.

I’m thinking of restricting access a little further fairly soon. At the moment you have to be logged in to change/edit the Wiki text, but of course anyone can create an account.

The user setup options are not quite as vast as with a forum but I can make it so that you have to request an account from a Sysop (moderator). That should stop most of the spammers/trolls.

We’d need two or three Sysops I guess.

Mark

Try the “help” page in the left margin – I put pointers to wikipedia help pages there.

I started a MIDI section. I think you can see where I am going with it. Feel free to chop/change what you want to make it more complete/concise. (And check my spelling :) )

I just got around to scoping this out again… you guys ROCK! :)

I’ve been toying with n-Track for several years and just recently decided to get serious about it. I happened upon this wiki project and already learned important aspects about compression (thanks Learjeff!). PLEASE keep this going whether Flavio incorporates it in this site or not. The wiki is the ideal reposatory for the contents of all you genuis’ noggins. Hopefully even I could contribute at some point. Thanks for getting this started Ali_G, Mark A and everyone!

boot.

(sorry, in the process of writing some crap, but it’s not done yet. :()
