build 2061
Flavio is at IT again…
n-Track v4.1.6 build 2061 is outta bata…
Bill…
you’re right Bill, he is at IT again, n-Track v4.1.6 build 2062 is already available. Maybe he gets paid extra for download traffic. He certainly is very busy.
Eyup!
Now that I’m working again I can’t claim poverty for keeping me from upgrading to V4
I tried the very early beta releases but they were too cpu hungry for my PIII 933.
Also, they didn’t play well co-installed with V3.3
Anybody using build 2061 on a similar system to mine?
Steve
Hi Steve:
I’m in your “DAW” Camp… That’s if your set-up is an Intel/ASUS 512 meg. 800mhz series DAW…
I have been installing The v4.1.6 bata builds as Flavio has posted them. The only issue I had with them was build 2042… I believe. It wouldn’t install on my '98SE Desk… I think he was away for a week when he posted that build. Right after that build he posted a build that “Fixed” that '98SE issue and from then on-ward ALL was fine.
I’m in the process of downloading/installing 2062 as I post this message. I’m off to go-get-IT…
Bill…
Build 2062 update.
Build 2062 is now installed on my P-111 ASUS/Intel 1.2mhz 512meg. DAW… and working just fine… With the Test Tracks streamimg from drive the CPU useage is running at 43-45%… The lowest 4.1.6 bata version ran at 35-37% … all things being equal…
Bill…
Eyup!
Looks like I’m warming to the idea Bill.
I only have one more excuse.
Gotta finish the current project first
Seriously, I think it’s time to take the plunge. Thanks Bill.
Steve
Hi Steve:
It wouldn’t be nice of me to give you wrong/bad advice… But Ya don’t have to worry about updating and not being able to import your tracks into the latest version… I don’t see any issues with that … anymore…
I would take note of the tracks on a hand-written note pad… Just to make sure of the tracks on your time-line… Then go to the preferences and make sure that the “PATH” is typed into the “PATH” area on the Drop-down TAB. Screen… Then go to the TAB and check the box that’ll allow you to play the last song… You’ll see that Check=box…
Go to the download page and get build 2062 and install it… Then import your tracks from the folder you have them stored in… and just hit the play button…
Like you, and a few versions back I was worried to death that there would be some issue that would keep the timeline from playing the tracks in the new build… Not anymore, for me and the setup I have…
That’s what I’ve observed here… NO Issues…
What build do you have installed right now? If you have an XP Desk , then you have netframwork installed… That being said… then you can install backward-and-forward from build-to-build… at will… At least on this set-up I have… I haven’t expirenced any bad artifects in that regard…
I download and install after downloading the builds… I have a folder that I download the builds, as Flavio posts them… I assign a version and then a build # Example… v4.1.6_build_2062 and so on and so forth… I know there is only one build in this version… But lets say… I want to install build /version lets say… 4.1.5_build_2045…
O.K. Just open the folder that has the build you want to launch…
The un-install screens will appear and prompt you through to the “Finished” install and Away-You -Go… you now have the build that you choose… No Head-aches… At-Lest-For-Me… anyway…
I used to be all “antsey” about doing that… Not any more… Whatever is in the CODE… Flavio has taken care of all that… At lest that’s what I think he has done…
But, I see no point in going Backward… Well??
Bill…
I’m back here reporting on the operation of build 2062 on these outdated and “Slow” P-111’s that I have…
These are “Sister” DAW’s… They are both intel/ASUS CUSL2-C mainboards. The 1.2mhz machine has one stick of 512meg ram that has an ATI AIW pro 128 graphics Card. There’s nothing special about this machine except that when it was built I thought it was the “Poorest-working” P-111 that I’ve seen…
Then, I went ahead and built another one. Except this one has an 800 mhz, processor that has two sticks of 256 meg. of ram… and a Matrox G-450 graphics card installed on the mainboard. and there are two drives that have an XP desk and '98SE installed on each drive… connected to the Primary IDE port, as Master-and-Slave…
Both machines have network cards that are part of my studio/home network… and they are loaded with hard drives with these Promise-T Drive-extender cards…
The 800mhz machine has a S/B 5.1 audio card and an STA Hoontech 2000 audio cards installed… with both cards answering to both Desks… XP and '98SE…
The 1.2mhz machine looks identical… except it has a 56k modem but this one has a S/B 5.1 audio card and a S/B 24-bit audio card… It has only an XP Desk installed on it… But is full of Hard Drives… as well…
The 1.2mhz machine has an Antec 550 watt Power supply… The 800mhz machine has an Enermax 365 watt power supply…
The 1.2 mhz machine reports a CPU usage with this TEST project I’ve been talking about in earlier topics… It has a CPU useage of 44-45% with the S/B 5.1 audio card with build 2062 installed…
The 800mhz machine reports a CPU useage of 54-55% on the XP Desk with the same test project… And with the S/B 5.1 audio card… With the STA 2000 audio card the CPU useage is… 57-58% on the XP Desk…
On the '98SE desk… The S/B 5.1 Card reports a CPU useage of 67-69% … The STA 2000 card reports a 63-65% useage…
The buffer adjustment/config on all n-Track desks/machines are set to “Default”…
Bill…
Hi Bill,
One of those later builds caused my screen to do a high speed flicker.Ever had that happen? I am leary of this latest version even though I am running xp, p4,512ram and plenty of hd space. I am tempted to try again though.
Hi 291dw:
I’m becomming super sensitive to mabey, everything I can observe as the new builds get post… I can’t really say that I’ve seen anything like what you are describing, on these machines, I have.
I can remember several versions and builds back when guys would describe their set-ups doing something like screen redraws… caused by the graphics cards inability to respond to the expanded wave files appearence to show the “Next Stretch” of the wave file… The graphics card would Re-Draw the next position of the wave file on the Time-line… But then computers were P-11’s and P-1’s and all… But you have a P-4 you know what the processor speed is… and you have a video card with … How many meg of Ram, on it?? But who knows… A combination of presentation of the Wave file and a “Block” of audio data, streaming can cause any number of “Glitches”… on your monitor screen…
I’ve heard some of the BIG GUYS talking about setting up for a Day’s worth of editing saying things like…
After booting your Machine up you Play your tracks/samples several times before you get into any serious work… for the day…
What that does, is, and I’m vague here… But IT aligns the audio data when streaming from the hard drive to fit blocks of data in a repetitive transfer motion… so the data is always set to stream the same amount each pass of the tracks… Well, something like that… The DAW Geeks may have a different description of the idea… Mabey, Jeff could help out here…
I know at times when I set up a series of tracks that I’m editing I will “Loop” the tracks and let them play several times before I get down to buisness… Then only after several passes of the loop it’ll begin to “settle” down and repete itself accuratlly… each time , In-the-Loop…
Hey, I’m happy, just to get my P-111’s to boot up and shut down…
Bill…
No go on the new version for me. I dl it and could not get a file to play. Call me crazy but it seems something with .net is corrupted on my computer.Ever since I got a .net error and then a blue screen any version with .net wont run.I did Dl .net 2.0 again. 4.04 is rock steady with me so I am going to stick with it. I have been told that if you have a # of errors with a program and DL over and over again ,bits and pieces are left and further corrupt things. Don’t know for sure, but since I am a mildly computer illiterate I cannot discount it. I would hope that someone new with n track would try a older version before giving up.
This is wonderful news - I have had my 4.x license sitting idle for a loong time, but now it is the right time to migrate. Not that I have been unhappy with my old DAW or n-track 3.x, but our latest project is running past 32 tracks plus, so stut-t-tering has become an issue, at least when starting up the song.
Just bought a new DAW with promising specs:
ASUS P4 773 u-ATX mainboard with 2 GB RAM
250 GB SATA-II HD (to be supplemented by a dedicated project HD ‘soon’)
3GHz P4 (630)
DVD-burner
Antec ARIA low-noise cabinet with built-in card-readers etc.
E-MU 1820 8-channel PCI soundcard with MIDI, SP-DIF, 24 bit, 192 kHz capability and ADAT interface
(happy to put my bonus @ work to good use…
)
Will be attending the EQE (European Qualifyiing Examintion for patent agents) this forthcoming wednesday, so I am busy right now studying, but after that, it’s assembly time…
regards, Nils
Eyup!
I decided to take the plunge and have a go with the latest version.
I was amazed to see a whopping 30Meg download! WTF?
Last time I downloaded NTrack it was only 3Megs!

Eyup!
Ok, I should have known.
V4 installer does not work correctly. Even though it installs into a separate folder, it overwrites V3.3 registry settings and shags up my copy of 3.3
I deliberately specified a path during installation so as to avoid this issue, but the installer ignored it.
Also, the new shortcut added to my desktop points to 3.3 and not V4 !
Same old problem as before.
BTW, even though the downloaded file is 30Meg, the install is only 18 Megs, again WTF??

Hi Steve:
Remember, If you have Netframwork v2.0 already installed you don’t have to download the “Big” File… You just download the 8+meg file and IT installs from there… As well there is a n "Installer in the Big File download if you don’t have that already installed… The computer geeks might jump in here and advise… That’s if you haven’t already attempted the install…
Bill…
Eyup!
Backwards compatibility with 3.3 projects is flakey to say the least.
Default signal routing is changed and user presets are not loaded with effects.
V4 overwrites my 3.3 FASoft plugins, so now I have a registered copy of 3.3, but all my plugs are evaluation versions of V4 plugs.
Steve
Just so it is known:
Version 4 does not coexst well (if at all) with version 3.
I ask the question directly of Fabio and he said they can not both be installed and work.
Ditto. I had to wack V3.3 when I went to V4. It has worked extremely well for me since though.
Build 2062 seems to be fine.
D
Eyup!
Well, both versions work but they have the sort of relatonship that exists beween siblings.
For the moment, I think I’ll revert to 3.3, finish my current project and then swap over.
