last month i bought a shure mic c 606, (@ my place INDIA)
i (stupidly ) connected the mic in the headphone jack of the pc expecting that it could pick up full and clear sound.
i asked and asked in the forum and have been instructed to buy a interface or soundcord .

i went to a music equipment shop at my place to buy a interface (Chennai, india)
the shop owner told me to buy m audio fast track usb interface

:)

If your microphone still works after the mis-plugging, I think you would be best served with the Fast Track Pro. My reasoning is that it will allow you to grow much further as you learn recording. Podcast systems tend to be purpose-driven, and less useful when pushed beyond their purpose.

Of course, if what you want to do is podcast, you might be best served by the more limited interface. And if your mic is broken, then that has to be considered, since the set you are looking at includes one. But generally an interface with more ins and outs gives you more flexibility in your recording, and will make your learning curve smoother.

Either way, good luck!
'til next time;

Hmmm. That wan't really a good idea. Don't swap connectors unless you understand about balanced/unbalanced connections and impedance matching.

The Fast track has an XLR mic input. That would be better.

According to the m-audio site the Fast Track is discontinued. I suspect your local shop owner is trying to sell you the Podcast Factory because that is all he has???

My suggestion - don't buy the Podcast thing. As Tony has said the "proper" interface would be much better.

thanks mark

this one please

if m audio has discontinued the fast track then, the fast track i am going to get at my shop is a old one ?

or they are trying to dispose the old stock?

strictly inform me shall i go with m audio fast track or fast track pro or anything other interfaces ?

pls help me boos.

Does your computer have a firewire input?

The reason I ask is that USB can be troublesome to use if you have multiple USB devices and limited USB inputs on a system.
I use a GNX4 for my guitar sounds which has USB input to go to the computer, along with a an external portable hardrive to back up files which also uses USB, also my wireless mouse and keyboard, you guessed it, run on USB…so does my MP3 player, my camera, you get the picture…

I have conflict with these devices sometimes, both the external hardrive and the GNX4 and the camera all want to come up as drive F: …there can be ONLY ONE F! :) sometime I have to unplug them and start the computer over just using one of them, I could only imagine what would happen if added another USB device and tried to rely on that for an action while I have other USB functions going on at the same time… :disagree:

Jerm, USB drives will normally all take the next available drive - if that's drive F then the next USB drive you plug in will grab drive F. Subsequent drives will then grab follow on drive letters. Sometimes this fouls up though. You can use Disk Management to assign each device a different drive letter (X, Y, Z?) which it will then keep. This can be handy say in your situation or to fix the drive letters if an application needs to be configured to see a drive at the same drive letter each time (eg a backup utility).

Well, only you can decide that really. If you are getting a good price then I would be tempted to go for the Fasttrack, but it depends on how much money you have etc. I guess you should check that there are Win 7 drivers for it too. M-audio are usually pretty good with drivers.

Let's face it, as soon as you buy something, it's out of date and tomorrow something better will come along. I know some of this kit is expensive but we need to think about its lifespan too when we buy it and plan to replace in a year, two years, what ever....

Good point, the "sometimes" is all the time for me, that is why I use firewire as my audio dedicated audio input, USB has got it's hands full, all four of them, on my system and it seems each day I have a new gadget that runs on USB finding the need to unplug one of the older ones....it's all the pluggin and unplugging, recognizing, and not recognizing that erks me, never have that problem with the single firewire device and card/port, since I have no other firewire devices, it seems to have it share of the flow, while all the other USB devices I use at the same time share theirs with each other....maybe it's just me :) and a mental thing...
