I am not sure that I understand what led to the crash…

You selected some notes on the midi piano roll, and n-track crashed when you tried to play them?

Does this error occur every time you try to play midi notes?
Only when midi is being used?

Hi,

i’ll try to explain it a little more advanced. I was making some sequence (about 4 measures). Those measures have to be repeated for 4 times, so i get a small part of music with 16 mesures. The best way in N-track (wich is a cool feature btw.) is to copy (ctrl-c), and shift+paste (shift+ctrl-v).
I did it with the first track. This track was controlling a external synthesizer (midi-out ch.1). The second track was controling the same synth (midi-out ch.2).
The system hanged at the second track while copying (ctrl-c) the 4 measures.
So, it didnt crashed while trying to play those notes, it chrashed while copying them.

Some sys-info:
I use the newest version of N-Track (registered), use the newest version of windows (legal), and have the newest drivers for my soundcard (E-MU 1212m, ASIO drivers). I dont use any other musical software, except for my synthesizer-editor and some vst-synth and effect stuff. None of them can be considered relevant for this problem, since the’re all legal.
My system-hardware is pretty new too. But since its a software problem i dont think its very relevant. If it does let me know, i post my system config here.

The problem occured only once. Not very strange, sonce i tryed only once. Whenever a programm crashes i try to keep away from my computer. I can get very angry, so to speak :).
To be more seriously, i didnt have the time at all to give the programm more tests. I’m a little busy at work lately.

Thanx for helping,

Regards,
Patrick

Patrick,

Version 4 of n-track occasionally has problems when working with midi. I have always had a few crashes with any project involving midi. Usually they have seemed fairly random. They were not too frequent to keep me from using midi, but I always saved such projects frequently. Coincidentally, copying pieces of files and moving them around on the time-line is one of the other activities that I know can induce semi-random crashes of version 4 – at least when one is moving around pieces of audio files. So don’t be afraid to use midi or to move pieces of files around, but do save your projects frequently while doing so. I’ve not had enough time to evaluate whether these problems are improved in version 5.

Good luck.

Tips to fix-

Restart the computer.
Update the program to its latest version.
Fully delete the program, and then reinstall it.
Install the latest Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable package.
Use SFC scannow to repair corrupted Windows files.
Run System Restore to return your computer to a previous state.\
