He hasn't chimed in with any tests with other DAWs... you still broke?
Are you asking me ?
I am still just researching the issue. Having my computer crash and needing to restore disk images is just painful enough that I want to do enough research ahead of time to avoid having it happen again. I am not locked into N-Track yet; I just downloaded the free trial. I can go with another if I am convinced it is generally more stable. I can really do any recording i NEED to do on my VS1680 and Micro BR.
N-Track, is attractive because it is cheap, of course. And I have had very good luck with cheap-ware/freeware such as Irfanview for photo/image processing. My desires for audio editing and processing are probably not really very demanding by many amateur recording standards, so I just want something that is useable and STABLE.
On the other hand, even though I am cheap, I am always willing to pay more for any product that is truly superior. It doesn't take many crashes before you are willing to spend a few hundred to avoid the headaches.
Any suggestion ? ....Or just try to get N-Track working again on my machine ?
Is there one, even if it costs more, that is generally regarded as "most stable under the widest conditions" ?
I downloaded and installed Reaper. Imagine my surprise when I was able to just pull it up, everything looked just like you would expect a DAW mixer to look like, and I was able to just start immediately playing and editing the Demo song. Then, I started importing and editing wav files just to see what I could do. Not the slightest hiccup ! Imagine what I will be able to do if I read the manual !
