New version/build posted

Hi phoo:
You’re right. Every time I update the build I have to reset the Paths, in the preferences… By default after I have updated the build, I have to open the preferences and re-set the Paths from where they were in the previous build.

For example… Today I downloaded b_2269… The path and to where the current project on this DAW is a folder in the “F” Drive…

But after updating the Build from 2268 - to - 2269 the Path in the updated build defaults to C:/Documents and Settings/My Documents/n-Track Music/

But… That’s not where the path to the current project is… It’s F:/ The Folder Where the Project is Stored

Here is a description of what I’ve done…

I was at build 2268… I updated to build 2269… In the first print screen You’ll see NEW SONG… That is not the path to the project that was set in build 2268… The first print screen has defaulted it’s path to C:/Documents and Settings/My Documents/My n-Track Folder/

I don’t store any project files there… By default or otherwise…

I thought about storing .sng files there that might direct the path to where the project .wav files are stored… That… in my opinion is pretty complicated… Best thing to do is to keep IT simple…

Here are the Print Screens… This is what the n-Track Timeline looks like each time I launch the newly updated build of n-Track… n-Track is looking in the “C Drive” for an .sng file that’s not there…

O.K… Having said that… The next process after updating the build is to re-set the path to the last project… This next print screen is where to set-and-browse for the drive-and-folder and to open the .wav files on the timeline…

Here, you’ll see that I’m in the process of browsing to the drive-and-folder in the config. path/Working Folder…

I don’t config. the path to an external editor or the sound card’s path… Well… not recently…

Now…

If I don’t have all the .wav files that I use in this project in this folder on this hard drive I will see those .wav files as a BIG “X” on the timeline… Then I have to go searching-and-browsing to where these files are stored… If I don’t have “Out-of-the-Box” notes to where these files are … It’s like looking for needles in a haystack… These files could be in any of three DAWs…Or in as many as nine hard drives… My memory ain’t as good as it used to be…

The Project’s File’s Paths in my set-up have to be reset every time I update to a new version/build on every DAW in my setup… This configuration/path is not saved when updating from a previous version/build…

The “Saved Default” is C:/Documents and Settings/My Documents/My n-Track Music/

In this print screen you’ll see the browse window… I am gonna set the path in n-Track’s Config. Path…

IT just so happens that all of the .wav files for this project are found on this drive and in this folder… so far… that is…

I’m in the middle of editing the drum tracks for this project… As the mix comes together I’ll be transferring and importing this project into the P-4 in the studio to complete the mix with the Lexicon Audio Hardware… It’s likely that these .wav files will end up on a number of drives and on more than one DAW… If I don’t start taking-and-making notes as to where these .wav files are I’ll be searching for .wav files all over the place… The only other way around this is to start making DVDs of the data-and-.wav files of the project each time I work on this song… and load the files onto the DAWs drive each session…

I can almost see that doing that would kill any creativity toward a project I might have… if I chose to do IT that way…

Bill…
