I love it!
Taft charged with misdemeanors for not reporting golf outings, other gifts.
Where’s the outrage amongst the conservatives. This rampant is corruption in it’s most obvious form. I hope this guy serves jail time but he probably won’t.
I should point out that this is the same governor who helped to re-elect Bush.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Gov. Bob Taft was charged with four ethics violations Wednesday for failing to report dozens of gifts that included dinners, golf games and professional hockey tickets, deepening a scandal that has rocked Ohio’s Republican Party. Taft, a Republican and member of a distinguished U.S. political family, becomes the first governor in Ohio history to be charged with a crime. The charges are also an embarrassment for a politician who has pushed for high ethical standards in his office. Taft, could be fined $1,000 and sentenced to six months in jail on each count if convicted, though time behind bars was considered unlikely. |
Hey clark!
We need some O’ dem crickets over here…

PS Sorry Soul-dude. Could’nt resist…
Dude, if I was in Ohio I’d be embarassed by how incredibly “bush league” that stuff is. Even a nobody like me gets invited to $100 golf outings and box seats to Notre Dame home games. That ain’t corruption, it’s just stupidity. A citizen couldn’t even have grudging respect for something as petty as what Mr. Taft pled guilty to. You want corruption, come to Illinois 'cause we got it in spades. Republican and Democrat, take yer pick. Our former Governor is going on trial for real corruption next month, and Hizzoner has been experiencing some difficulties lately too. Them Ohio pols must be real pansies…
Where are you going to draw the line then? The things Taft did were apparently illlegal. Should he be just allowed to do it?
He was fined $4,000 with no jail time.

NO! But the reality of it is it's almost impossible to stop. These guys got where they are by being sleazy.
TG
Is this the same “Ohio” as in the Judgement Day topic?

No. And he wasn’t. He was stupid enough to get busted and had to plead guilty and pay a fine. He’ll also have a great chance at losing a job that’s been his family’s heritage for lo, these many decades, because he was stupid and got caught with his fingers in the same till that, I guarantee you, Democrats are dipping from too. Wake up. This was petty foolishness, and getting your panties in a twist about “where’s the outrage” is pointless if you’re not a citizen of the Great State of Ohio. And you’re not.
I know folks from Ohio. They’re not stupid. If this generation of Taft is sleaze, I’m confidant they can take care of him without your help, or your outrage. Look what happened to Governor Ryan from Illinois. He was at the tip of a sleazy iceburg that had been building since I was in high school, fercryinoutloud, and I’m 41 now. He and his rotten ilk finally got thrown out of office a couple of years ago. To be replaced by a different bunch of thieves and shysters, some of whom are now paying the price for their own brand of stupidity.
People with money and power couldn’t care less about jail and fines. Loss of power is what they fear the most, and it’ll come for this swine Taft, just like it has for so many others…
We can only hope!
Hope what? what are you hopeful of?

Well, I can’t speak for Mike, but I find that just general, unfocused but very sincere, “hope”, gets me through the day.

Well, as a native Ohioan in the capital city who is quite up on State house politics, this is just the tip of the ice berg for Taft. All of the rest of his underlings have already fallen in other scandals or are in the process of going down. The repubs in Ohio are outraged… No one likes the guy. As for the tip of the ice berg… it is just the tip I can guarantee. (I know lots of folks who know lots of folks… Taft is on his way out in the Ohio repub party… not to mention the other things that haven’t been filed in court yet.) BTW, the new golden boy is the one who also was responsible for the 4 hour line I had to stand in to vote last November… some how red districts had too many machines while blues, such as mine, were mysteriously shorted.
The differnce between dems and repubs is not how crooked they are, but how organized they are. The dems take everyone that doesn’t fit in the repubs. Which is worse… a unified front of corruption or more free spirited individualistic corruption? Eh, about the same in my book. /soap box
