Palladio - with electric guitars

DeBeers diamond commercial jingle

This song isn’t really a jingle, but was used as one in the DeBeers diamond commericals. It’s a violin quartet by the composer Karl Jenkins. I heard this song sampled here in a rap song by a group called Shackrock (if anyone remembers their posts). I thought it would be fun to redo the original song with the all violin parts played on a Les Paul and bass guitar.

Sounds like it was a lot of fun to compose. Really suits metal. Kinda reminded me of Maiden.

Thanks Stu. This is in one of those minor keys that the neoclassical metal bands like to use.

How bout a little background. Guitars you used effects etc…
when ya got some time.

Not that I’m tryin to steal tricks…errrrm well maybe.

Wow…

I’m enjoying some of the music I’m seeing in this forum more than what I hear on the radio. Never thought that I would say that.

So KSD, is there more of your music available, and do you have more like this?

I thought I heard an auto-harmonizer on the first part of your arrangement, but after that all the harmonies were put together note by note. Pretty clean and pretty impressive. Have you given any thought to adding more percussion and elaborating the drum track a bit more?

I used a J-Station to record the guitar parts with. There’s a Soldano patch that I found at the J-Station patch library Web site. It’s a good all-purpose lead guitar patch. There’s some delay, reverb and compression on it. I have a Les Paul Standard and I used the neck pickup (mostly) for all the guitar parts.

The bass guitar was also recorded through the J-Station using one of the bass amp models.

The rest is just a result of massive overdubs. As a piece for the string quartet, there are plenty of harmony parts.

Everything was recorded live, but through multiple takes until I could get the timing as close as I had the patience for. You can definitely hear some rough parts.

I kept the drum patterns basic on this, but I could see going back and trying to dress it up a little now that I have better handle on the flow of the song.

I do have some other songs (covers and originals), but none that necessarily sound like this style. Thanks for the comments and questions.

So OK Ksbd, you’ve got my interest. You say that your other music isn’t necessarily similar to this. Thats OK. My guess is that the other stuff would be well done too. Since my musical tastes are pretty eclectic I suspect that I would like it. Do you have it posted somewhere?

Thanks for the nice comments. I do have a few songs posted at this site. I haven’t updated it lately, because I’ve been doing a lot of cover song projects more recently. The ones posted here are originals.

When the Night Time Comes

What kind of guitar and amp, effects?
It has a nice controlled crisp overdriven sound.

That’s a song that my brother wrote. We did a long distance collaboration. I just played bass and keyboards. He plays a Japanese Tele through a Marshall amp (I believe an Artist 3203 head) and a 4x12 cabinet. He only played the rhythm guitar part.

I sent the track to a couple of guitarists via e-mail, who I met online at another site. I liked the way these two play blues solos and thought it would be fun to do let them each take a solo on the track.

The first solo was an SG STD through a pod and the second is a female guitarist who plays a fat Strat through a V-Amp and the Brit Class-A model.

Is the chick quitar player hot?

So StuH, you’re assuming you got a chance if she is?

Ohhh I’m not saying that. i just always have this image of female guitarists looking like Lita Fords or younger Leona Boyds. Wnat to see if my freudian stereotype holds true.

I've only seen a picture on her avatar, but it's too small and grainy to make an accurate judgment.

Hmm…mystery woman. Gave the song another listen. She’s gotta be hot. So StuH can keep his Feudian image I guess.

Ohhh, about the song. Nice blues piece.

i really like this. I think it would be cool if you pan the guitars so one is playing through the right speakjer and the other is playing through the left.

That's a cool idea. I did do a little bit of panning, but not too wide. At some points there are three and four guitar parts, so I tried to spread things apart with out everything hard left and right. If you listen around the 2:00 mark, you should be able to tell that the different parts are separated.

Sounds like you have a hit with us guitar freaks.

Did you ever consider doing a real polish up on it. Not that it sounds bad just got the feeling you did a demo. You could really do some neat things with that tune.

I totally agree with StuH. You ought to really go for it.
