question  for the folks who  gig

what tune gets the people on the floor f

i have been thinkin and wonderin about this for a while now.my question to those of you who gig with a group or solo is,what tune gets you the most reaction, what tune do you or your group play that gets the dancers out on the floor time and time again, kind of a shure-shot tune, one that never fails to get em goin?
one of ours for sure is"mustang sally".seems no matter what has happend before we play that number,it always gets the attention of the dancers and people who like to sing along.im curious to know what songs work for you during your gig,
one song that has seemed to reach a new generation is “purple haze”…used to be that if a group i was in played it,the dance floor was deserted in seconds, not so in the last couple years, people actually dance to it!!! i never thought i would see the day. :agree:

Hi wozz, yep “Sally” works fer sure. Maybe 2 others I know of, Your Mama Don’t Dance - Loggins and Messina,
Play That Funky Music White Boy. Most times they fill the floor. I’m not gigging dance venues anymore, just resturants and coffee houses, playing alot of "JT"

I think the tunes we had as teens are like elevator music now, so they go over anywhere ya play em. Purple Haze was on in the grocery store last time the wife and I were shopping, I freaked out!

Yaz

Summer of '69… Always gets the crowd going!

Smooth from Santana… always gets the dancers up!

You shook me all night long…freaks 'em out!

Authority Song, Devil Went Down to Georgia, any medley making fun of Ice Ice Baby or Baby Got Back.

Baby got Back by Jonathan Coulton - cool cut.

If ya’ll have not been turned on to J.C. you need to check his tunes out.

Buy direct from him if you like his stuff - we swapped emails a year or so back when I had bought his stuff on iTunes. Support direct to artist!

“Funky Town” by Lipps Inc.

j/k…

This band I was in, well we did Rock and Roll man. Too cool for any of that disco garbage right? Well this gal comes to the stage one night and says “Will you guys play ‘Funky Town’?” I grabbed a certain unmentionable area of my body and says “I gotcha Funky Town RIGHT HERE.” LOL… I was a bad, bad boy… oughta been shot.

Rush’s “Jacob’s Ladder” does NOT get the kids to “get their shwerve on,” or whatever they call it nowadays.
just thought i’d throw that out there.
i’m much more of an aficcionado about tunes that call the crickets than those that call the honeys.
or whatever they call it nowadays.

WHAT!?!? Jacobs Ladder don’t get yer toe to tappin’?

Funny how music affects people in different ways huh? I don’t care two plug nickels for most of the “popular” crap anymore… I certainly HATED the whole disco scene and despise rap probably even more. Other than those two genres, I like everything from Rimski Korsakov to Zeppelin to George Jones and all in between.

Music is such a subjective “thang” no?

Don’t really play where there’s much dancing going on, but Drift Away always gets a positive reaction.
