Hi Gents:
I was getting ready to post an update to this P-111 rebuild and the machine shut down…
I re-installed XP on another hard drive and I have all the original hardware installed in it… I spent the day updating the software and hardware drivers and all… I was pretty proud of my efforts… I was connected to the Internet, and all…
However, just at the time I was gonna post the reply the machine shut down…
When I turned on/restarted the machine and before the "POST-UP completed it says…
“DISK BOOT FAILURE,INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER”
What does that suggest ?
I’ve not seen that before…
Can someone point me to the next step??
to get this machine back-up-and-running…
Bill…
Back Again Today:
I re-configuered the BIOS Boot and booted from the Wimdows XP Disk.
The scrolled to repair Windows Operating System on the C Drive.
It copied files to a new boot sector…
I think that’s what happened… I then re-configuered the BIOS to boot from the C Drive…
Low-and-behold the C Drive booted to the desk…
I’m in the process of still downloading the Panda Update files.
It’s quite large…
Some 26 meg. in size.
A long while for a dial-up and modem…
I still don’t have any idea as to why the Boot Failure happened…
I don’t know how to diagnose a failure like that…
I think it was Bax3… You suggested I change the lithum battery on the main board… I’m gonna do that… It appears that the BIOS Settings/Adjustments are not saved to the C Moss with any assurance…
Bill…
The P-111 re-build continues…
It’s a slow process when the only connection to the Internet is by dial-up-and-modem… Microsoft is allowing the Operating System Updates to complete…
I just saw 52 updates complete and install It appears that I unable to update to the v7 browser…
The upgrade wants to see the XP install Validated… As I type this reply I see that the Microsoft updates are continuing to download.
I was unable to install n-Track v4 and v5 till .NET Application 2.0 was installed.
V4 installed right at the get-go…
but v5 (latest build) needed Installer v3.1 to load…
Flavio in his wisdom linked the download page to the v5 downloads so that the correct installer was downloaded brfore the n-Track v5 install worked…
On the OLD P-111 Machine I loaded the VST Plug-ins in the V4 VST Folder…
So when v5 builds launched it looked for the VST Plugs there.
My question is…
Is there a better/more productive way to have both versions of n-Track utilize
or search for VST Plugs ??
Anyway, I’m past the point of no return in this P-111 rebuild.
I have 28 days remaining before this XP Build needs validation…
I continue to work on this rock pile…
Bill…
p.s.
I forgot to mention…
I believe that I discovered why the BOOT-UP of the OLD C Drive failed…
It appears that during the Boot Process there was a file called asms
I don’t see what the extension to that file is…
But…
this file is missing…
So…
The boot to the XP Desk hung…
I went searching for this file…
BUT * asms * is no-where to be found on any disks I own…
Could it be a
virus
or
a
worm
?
See if this link might help.

Hi Poppa Willis:
I’m browsing the link you posted as I Reply to your post…
This missing file is quite important, so it appears…
I’ve been busy loading-and-testing this re-install now sense Saturday…
I’m moving right along, or at least I think so…
I’m disapointed though, that I am unable to import all the links that I had on the old C Drive…
I find I am unable to import the “Favorites” folder/file…
AND My Address Book/.wab file/folder from the old drive…
Any attempt at importing these folders into the new build has escaped me…
Having said that I think I’d still like to continue re-building this C Drive that I’ve worked so hard on…
I have some 26 days remaining to get it validated…
My next chore with this re-build is…
to get the
Local Network up-and-running… OR getting the machines to communicate with each other… The issues I have with it is,
to keep it running… After several days the machines don’t seem to want to communicate, for whatever reason…
I have the OLD Drive installed on the P-111 machine as the Secondary/Slave Drive on the Primary IDE 80-Pin ribbon wire on the machine…
Something weird happens when I try to access the drive…
It locks the machine up…
I don’t know what the reason for that might be…
As you can see…
I hesitate to format the drive just yet…
I may attempt to follow the instructions on that link and see if I can bring that old C Drive back to working conditin…
We’ll see…
Bill…
You’re a better man than I - I would have already bought a new one and slaved the old drives for file access only. But I also know how you feel about letting go of the old machines.
By the way - did you replace your motherboard battery?
Gulluck!
Hi Poppa Willis:
I replaced the Lithium Battery over the weekend.
I measuered the voltage of the old battery and found it to be
on the plus side of three volts(unloaded)…
That is a subjective reading…
I didn’t measure it’s potental loaded (or in place)…
Anyway, the BIOS settings are rather subjective…
I finally got the BIOS to do the commands I wanted after some number of times of trial-and-error to get the boot sequence to some order…
between the DVD/CD reader and C Drive… I hate playing with the BIOS and Registry…
Spare Me…
I’m searching to take something Positive from this expirence…
The harder I search …
the harder it is for me to find whatever that is…
I’m tough enough to take a crack at trying to recover that OLD C Drive…
If I could recover the Boot Structure and make it work…
I think that could be the Positive motivation to challenge me to find out how to do it…
and make it work…
As it turns out…
I partitioned the 80 Gig drive into two equal partitions…
I’m thinking of loading a boot sector on the other partition and then searching for the missing asms folder…
if it’s that easy
?
Who knows
?
At the moment, the drive doesn’t even like to be OPENED/SEARCHED…
It tends to lock up the P-111 when I attempt to open it up…
