End times approach.

In September 2006, CBS Paramount Television began syndication of an enhanced version of Star Trek: The Original Series with new state-of-the-art CGI visual effects. All 79 episodes are being digitally remastered with computer-generated effects that were not possible when Gene Roddenberry created the show 40 years ago. A constant goal for the team was: What would Roddenberry have done with today’s technology. “The exterior of the ship now has depth and detail, and it will fly more dynamically.” Painted backdrops will also be brought to life: Once-empty star bases will have CGI people milling about, while static alien landscapes have been given slow-moving clouds and shimmering water. Okuda says that a view of the Earth in the episode “Miri” has been replaced with a more accurate image. Goofs will also be corrected: In the episode “The Naked Time” there was no beam coming out of Scotty’s phaser when he tried to cut through the bulkhead outside Engineering. The new scene now restores a light beam cutting through. |
Sounds good, but…

However, these aired episodes have been scaled back from their original run times of 48-53 minutes to 42 minutes for the purpose of incorporating more ads. |
It’s a sick, sick world we live in.

No, on second thoughts, forget the "

But, alas poor Gizmo, where you and I wanted to embrace the idea of going where no man has gone before (progress)…the rest of America embraced Tales From the Darkside…
…They will probably run it in 10 minute segments followed by 400 commercials like every program I’m interested in… Sure…I really want to hear those Man Rules for the zillionth time by a bunch of larda$$es led by Burt (Look at My Rug) Reynolds…but Diogenes keeps throwing his vote away in jaded defiance of reality!

Sigh, they want to ruin everything… just like how George Lucas screwed up Star Wars. -Bubba in Sweden

Come on KF… I said it before, if the Dems throw a decent candidate on the ballot… I am not REPEAT NOT a party hack! I think all of ‘em are morons for the most part.
The Dems have real chance at the bag of marbles this time. I hope they don’t shoot themselves in the foot.
D – very much a realist… albeit a jaded, cynical realist…
PS Hello Bubba in Sweden! Doin’ some yodelin’

On the other hand, the update of Sagan’s “Cosmos” is excellent. so:

Heh, Stockholm (outside of the old town) is surprising like home. McDonalds has invaded with Burger King and Shell oil. Tomorrow we are going to hit the traditional stuff. One thing for sure... the cheese is friggin awesome here. They make this traditional cheese with some sort of moonshine. GOOOOOD stuff.
Tom, there is an update to Cosmos? Oooo. Gotta hit the library when I get back to the US. I haven't seen Cosmos in like 15 years. I have read the book more recently.

Carl Sagan is responsible for the big bang?

And he’s updated it??

I hope I get longer lasting hair this time around!

Cartoon voice I like cheese…
Hope you guys have a fun, safe trip Bubba!

Youse guys is funny.

One might expect the text to be less than relevant, given all that has been learned in 1/4 century, but Sagan’s poetry is even more moving than it was before, and the underlying political concern - that science be used to create and not destroy - speaks with even more force than it did. It is utterly enthralling. And a good antidote to pessimism brought on by the crazies who are running things now.
You’re in Sweden Bubba? Stockholm is nice, they care about visitors there.
Tried the open sandwiches yet?
Great aren’t they?
Just don’t go mucking it all up by drinking the stuff they call beer!
Tom, Sagan was a Scorpio, and it’s an indisputable fact that there’s never been a competent Scorpio astronomer, ever.
Or physicist.
Or philosopher.
Some great keyboard players though!
This is wrong on every level! Leave the thing alone. The cheesiness was part of the charm.
Question? How come whenever a dangerous situation arose Kirk always led the away team. Why wasn’t he smart like Jean Luc Picard who, whenever a dangerous situation arose, said
“off you go then number one”
Heh, I am staying with some friends of Kristi and the husband is off the boat Sicilian. Beer has not been an issue as the wine and hard stuff (Grappa, calvados, limoncello) has been just swell. The funny thing is Sweden is like Quebec Canada in most ways except a few. Same sort of cuisine, similar land scape, exceptionally high standards of living even though they have this “evil” socialist government… however, the shower heads in Sweden rock. Holy crap. I never knew I woul dbe so enthralled with a shower head before. These things are amazing. We leave for Poland tomorrow.

Hey, I believe you Pancho, but I can't say that I know of any philosophers who are scorpios.
OK, Bubba, what's with the shower heads?

Check it out, they have a termperature control on the side instead of manually guessing. Awesome.
Eyup!
Bubba, watch that Calvados, it’s great stuff
I can’t reply to the main part of this thread because I am too upset!
I have boldly gone.
So there
Steve
Well I don’t see it as all bad.
At least it will be seen by the NEXT GENERATION.
Many of them would never appreciate it the was it was anyhow.
Can’t wait to see what they do to the tribbles.

Never underestimate those that forsee making bucks to mess things up royally for the rest of us.
Digitize and clean up, yes, but ENHANCE AND SHORTEN? NO WAY!
“Enhance and shorten” don’t go together.
Quite a picture there, Bubbagump.
